from another forum i go onI find the vast majority of music from the past 20 years to be unlistenable garbage. The average years of the songs I have in my collection would probably around the mid-1970's. Everybody always says, "Oh, you gotta listen to OK Computer, it's amazing!" to which I say that no, it isn't. It's over produced, heavily layered, pretentious crap that takes itself too seriously. Talent has been something missing from the music industry for a long time.
The stuff I listen to is:

i mean yeah classical music from the baroque period wasn't heavily layered at all, or pretentious, nor did it take itself seriously

My friends always try to recommend newer bands to me, and some of them are decent. I just can't get into any of them! Dream Theater (I know they're more of a 90's band) and Tool always sounded listenable, at the very least, to me, but that's about it. Are there any bands with similar styles to the ones I put up? The vocal style is important, I don't like the Black Metal growl and I hate the Radiohead modern style.
They may do some fancy gee-tar playing, but they just lack the it factor that guys like Angus Young and Eddie Van Halen have, even in their 50's.
