25th Hour - 9/10

Great film, I love Edward Norton's acting and I love the final scene or whatever.

Going off of Kmar and Uzique's high words, I watched Un Prophete tonight. It's on Netflix Instant Watch for anyone who's interested.

Wow. Now that's a Mafia/Prison movie. Loved that last scene. Whole movie was very realistic and at the end I almost didn't want Malik's story to end.

9/10

TRON: Legacy 9/10

Other than those corny one-liners from Sam Flynn, this movie was really good.  The visuals were pretty awesome.  I loved how they portrayed The Grid and made Jeff Bridges look younger.  The music also fit the movie very well.  And ohh yeah, Olivia Wilde is smoking hot with short hair.

The 10th Kingdom - 8/10

clip (embedding was disabled)

From the viewpoint that yes, it was a miniseries, the film definitely doesn't fall into the many degrees of fail, and is above average. But will there be a sequel?

The 10th Kingdom had poor ratings in America so NBC has no interest in a sequel. Despite the poor ratings, Hallmark had more orders for the boxed tape set they were selling than they could fill and fan letters poured in about the possibility of a sequel. Because of this, writer Simon Moore still had hope of selling the sequel he originally intended to write.

Moore was approached to do more episodes at a lower budget and with different actors but refused not wanting the sequel to be inferior to the original.

In March 2004, Moore said in an interview "I would love to continue the adventures of Wolf and Virginia, but there are a number of obstacles in the way. However, as some of you know, The 10th Kingdom took nearly twelve years to get made, so don't give up on a sequel quite yet!"

Simon Moore has said the following in January of 2006: "Most of you know that a second series of 10th Kingdom is something I would love to do, but we will all have to wait until the time is right and the opportunity presents itself. I have no more news on the subject, but if it is meant to happen, then one day it will..."

I don't really think it needs one. It wrapped itself up nicely.

True Grit: 6/10.

Some beautiful cinematography and excellent acting. But I felt like the overall story and plot progression lacked a certain power or force and it all came off weakly to me. I was also annoyed at what I felt was maturity, wit and confidence not believable for a 14-year old girl, even one from the late 1800's. That made me sad because I also thought her character was cool. The previews hinted at a gritty, hard-fought manhunt but for some reason that wasn't what came through to me overall.

revolutionary road - 8/10

subtly evocative domestic american drama, similar to the director's previous work, american beauty, in style and effect. characters are realistic and extremely well developed, developing a brilliant sense of pathos and empathy between audience and actor; the thematic concerns and underlying moods of the film are a cross-sectioned examination of american society as a whole at that historical period. the setting, camera-work and production values are all impeccably top-notch and immerse you in the story twofold with the top-rate acting. one of dicaprio's best acted - though under-stated - roles.

a good, solid hollywood drama. no special pretensions or arty over-convictions... just a solid deliverer.

The Fighter - 9/10

Shows off Wahlbergs true talent as an actor and Bale puts on a fantastic show with a very hard character to recreate. You can tell that Wahlberg has been preparing for this for 4 years. Fantastic depiction of Micky Ward.

annie hall - 9/10

my favourite woody allen film. brilliant writing, the dialogue and narration is witty, quick and eloquent. the neurotic autobiographical protagonist is extremely like-able and easy to identify with, thanks to an expertly realized (i.e. not reduced to cliche or stereotypes) relationship between him and the eponymous love-interest, and the relative lack of allen-esque idiomatic quirks. a 'true' love story, in the sense that it refuses to gloss over the sometimes inconvenient/uncomfortable truths of our romantic relationships, and realizes that, even in the worst of scenarios... there is a little bit of comedy in our love-lives.
