Using pahse-change cooling, an Intel Core Duo(T2600) was sucessfully overclocked to 3.8GHZ....

Completed Superpi in 15 seconds, about the same time as the next-gen Conroe...

now if only I was rich enough to afford phase-change cooling...

Yeah, I'd expect nothing less from phase-change cooling, that shit is absolutely INSANE.

But nothing beats the liquid nitrogen cooler that was able to get a stock Pentium 4 3.4 GHz to nearly cross the 7-GHz barrier...crazy.  Will post a link once I find it.

edit(s), this isn't the link I remember from before, but here is a report of a P4 just barely breaking 7 GHz, and here is a detailed report with pictures of a liquid nitrogen cooler able to get a P4 to break 5 GHz.  Enjoy!

I highly doubt today's silcon is capable of 7ghz speeds

Dont be such a bitch cold fussion.

The links proved your "I highly doubt today's silcon is capable of 7ghz speeds" statment to be wrong. But Kefra asked you nicely, so be a little plite. Not his (or anyone elses) fault you made such a redicules clame.

Ps. Awesome topic altogether!

ok since this is about overclocking....

intel pentium d 805 overclocks to 4 GHZ... why so good? coz of its 20X multiplier and low oc of 133mhz... turn it to 200 then 4ghz

Best part is that the Conroe can do it at stock voltages and not need 1.65V to be able to get those speeds.

Well this also shows how capable the Core Duo is. Right now, they have low clock speeds and low voltages, to keep power consumption and heat down in the portables. But if it's capable to go all the way up to 3.8GHZ, that says something about how versitle a processor it is...

But ya, when the Conroe comes out, that beast will be the shit...Like Janus said, it will be able to reach those benchmarks at stock speeds...

while we're on the subject of overclocking, heres a budget Pentium D running at 4.1GHZ...

Conroe would totally pwn AMD hard core, dont hear some bullshit that "omg conroe suxxorz its liez..." those benchies on Conroe is real

btw, does any1 know which 975x board support conroe? gigabyte has 2 975x chipset board... 81975x and 81975x-c, does the C stand for conroe support? anyone?

back on topic... OC'ed core duo pwned fx60 when overclocked...

Well, the current AM2 processors are VERY buggy, so theres not much of a comparisin at this moment...

Im willing to guess Intel will be on top for awhile, but then the AM2 series will catch up after a few revisions and turn out to be the best price/preformance processor....Similar to how it is now....

But this is all speculation, Intel is heading in a new marketing and company direction so we'll see...
