At least 50% don't work... what's your point?
Income Taxes are paid for mostly by the upper class. My point is that the people I usually see complaining about what illegals do or don't pay in taxes generally aren't paying much in taxes themselves. I thought that was obvious.
Well, on the other hand, the upper class has the vast majority of wealth.  Of course, they're going to pay the majority of taxes.  That's true of most industrialized nations.
I understand that. But the code is far from being balanced as a ratio to income. 50% and up pay over 96% of the taxes. Why is it that virtually every other person doesn't have to pay any fed taxes at all? Every other person isn't living in poverty ... not real poverty at least.

49% of people in this country pay no federal income tax at all.

Yep. I'm starting to think that people should be elected for life so they can govern more rationally and spend less time doling out handouts to people every election cycle. That more than anything else messes up this country.

That's a fair point.   Granted, this wouldn't even be an issue if we cut government spending in half.

Ohhh man. The last thing I would expect to hear from you. Where does the motivation come from then? Yes there is a problem that needs to be addresed. But don't expect it to get better if you take away the only thing that can provide accountability.

I actually don't mind that idea.  It would be more honest.   Hell, if we really wanted transparency in government, we'd just appoint all the top lobbyists as legislators for life.  Those are the guys actually making the decisions, because they fund all the candidates and don't have to worry about elections.

Well, it's either that or limit the right to vote to only those that actually pay income taxes.

No, it's not really class warfare. I'm not saying limit the right to vote to only those that pay 428095830750 in taxes every year. Whether it's $1 or whatever, we all use services and we all should be paying for them. If you don't pay taxes your voice shouldn't be heard. It's a simple concept.

It's also a great way to cut down on people working off the books.

Whether or not you pay taxes, your voice is barely heard anyway.  This wouldn't change much other than the rhetoric used to get elected.   Beyond that, policies would likely remain about the same.

Well yeah, that's what I was saying.   Everyone has a price.  We just create ever more complicated systems to pretend that we govern with the interests of the public in mind.   The only saving grace of our system is that this level of complications is enough that special interests fight each other more than they fight the public.

Granted, most of the time, the public doesn't even have a coherent view on what direction to take anyway, so having special interests take the helm is ok with me.   I mean, at least they actually know what they want.   The people only seem to want what they've been told to want.

Somebody has got to pay for those multimillion dollar election campaigns. They take the money from the rich to make promises to the poor. I say we eliminate the middle man.

I suppose, but at the same time, we've already seen that the ultra-rich just take it back through bailouts.

It doesn't matter how you cut it.  The rich rule things.  They might throw some scraps to the poor, but that really doesn't compare to how much industries like banking rape us for profit.

If we're not paying money to the government, we're still paying it to big business.  Either way, the money is in their hands, not ours.

Banking rapes your for profit? I wasn't aware that they were charities. I also wasn't aware that they are necessary at all. Since when is a bank account a requirement for saving? Since when is a credit card necessary at all? I'm noticing that most of your arguments are backed up by nothing but hot air.

Well, you're right.  Healthcare isn't a necessity either.  Neither is having a home or a car.  If you learn survival skills, you can live in the wild.

So banking is now a right? Really? You can't put your money in stocks or bonds or hide it under your mattress? You can't save up enough money to pay rent or buy a house? You're that completely dependent on banking for your survival? Arguing with you is worse than arguing with H/J or lowing. At least they put some thought into their arguments.
