please never ever equate memento with inception again in terms of plot-complexity

inception is a spectacle and a gimmick, imo. it seems impressive at first but then left with a while to digest it... it just seems vacuous and like a one-trick pony. i can't say i'd watch it many more times and be particularly blown away by the whole conceit again: it's fun to see it unravel once, fun to experience the little twist... but what more is there to it? it's a 'spectacle' film in the same way avatar was - entertaining, but nowhere near as much substance as the wanky script and pretentious acting makes out.

I actually agree, having taken the headphones off and thought about it. I want to like it more than I do. I don't think there is as much to it as some make out, and after reading what everybody has to say about it (as I do after every film), it seems people are coming up with tons of crazy theories, making others believe there is more to the film than what there really is, which is what Nolan is so good at at. I gave Memento a 9, so I have to knock this down half a point as I don't genuinely believe it is as good.

Never the less, it is an interesting concept, good acting, good visuals etc.

I shall watch Un Prophete, it's already on an HD somewhere.

Btw, pretty sure I have cracked the actual truth to Memento, as Nolan says he has never seen the correct theory to it. So I am going to post it on IMDB and become a hero over there....One word:

i really enjoyed memento because it is basically the film enactment of the theory of russian literary formulists

particularly the narratological theory of vladimir propp, which i read a lot of in my first undergraduate year

the film is essentially the formalistic outplaying of the fabula and sujet constructions...
