it's one thing to have a theme... it's another to implement it successfully. that's where the walking dead failed

A cheap action movie like Transformers using a worn out cliche just isn't on the same level as a movie that's designed to criticize contemporary culture.

I'm gonna agree with Uzique here, the show is about as deep as a fly's vagina.

I like the show, I find it entertaining, I do not find it a deep zombie show with connotations of the problems faced by modern society in a break down of the society itself. The fact that they then spoon feed you things like "racism is bad", "don't judge a book by its cover", "adultery is naughty"... It's just plain stupid and assumes people have to be slapped in the face with a fish before they will admit said fish exists.

You can cover issues like racism and the like subtly, you don't need to set up characters as huge stereotypes to get the point across. It's just patronising.

Look at how the wire dealt with racial issues, it was much more subtle. I don't need a neon sign flashing infront of my face saying "this is racism, it is bad".

Overall I do like the show, but I feel the way they try to cover the social issues leads to absolute /facepalm moments in the episodes. Fair enough you want to give some social commentary and an interesting new take on the zombie apocalypse, but put some effort into actually doing it properly.

That's the only scene I recall racism being a big issue. My point was that unless I missed something, you only have to put up with 5 minutes of the shit, so it ain't that bad.

I just watched this, pretty entertaining show.

In terms of the Jenner whisper I thought the exact thing that bennis did. It's gonna be something to do with Rick, his bloodtest and his coma. The guy who did the comics says that the tv series is diverging from the comics which he thinks is good so it's not predictable. Apparently the whisper will tie in heavily to season 2 and it's a 'cool bit' i.e it probably won't have anything to do with Lori's baby and thank goodness for that. I don't think this show will survive the crap that happens in the comics (where it seems every character is expendable and the story basically goes nowhere).

Well, the thing is that the comic series is designed to show you the emotions and personal lives during an apocalypse. It's not supposed to be how to survive. I certainly hope the television series has some common sense and makes it interesting.

edit: Here's a list of things Kirkman said we should expect in 2011. I'm excited.

* Hershel's farm.
* The introduction of Maggie, a love interest for Glenn.
* The introduction of Michonne, a sword-wielding survivor.
* More of Merle.

The first season was more of a test season IIRC. That's why they only had 6 episodes, and hence the longer seeming wait.

I think this coming season will be 13.
