Xigmatek Dark Knight is a decent budget one. It's kinda large though. What case do you have?

and how much do you want to spend on it?

doesn't sound like your heatsink is doing >anything<

i don't want to sound condescending but make sure it's plugged in all the way to the mobo? Is a fan even spinning?

You could try reseating your current one which would only cost about $7 (for thermal compound) instead of $30 for a new heatsink.

oh it's in there and spinning lol.  About a week ago I cleaned out the heatsink.  I didn't reapply thermal paste because I was too lazy, so I know that's the problem.  But it seems like my room is a little hot and I still have the heatsink that came with the cpu.

Although I love Onkyo, I can see why you'd be turned off.

Try the Sony STRDN1010. I have the STRDG-something at home and I'm very happy with the quality. It's got 110 watts per, so within your range. It's also on sale for 450 now, so well within your budget.

Else, I don't think there's a Denon matching your specs and price. The cheapest one above 100 watts per is 800 bucks or so. Yamaha I have little experience with, but I think you'd be looking at the 650-700 range with the RX v765, except it's 95 watts per.

Another couple of choices would be thePioneer VSX-1020K. I've always liked Pioneer, even though their audio fidelity allegedly leaves some to be desired in some cases. Never used one of their AV amps, but it looks good. Either that, or some of the Yamaha HDR line, except they're all less powerful.
Yea man, I cant believe my Onkyo is failing already, warranty expried 28/10/10 too.. how whack?  I like that Sony.... hmmmmmm
hmm. sounds like a lemon. mine (TX-SR805) has been going strong since 2007.. heavy use.

even the stock heatsinks should do a MUCH better job than that, dude

have you reseated it and reapplied thermal paste? sounds like it doesn't have an even application / proper contact

is your CPU overclocked? you could just always return it to stock settings, for now...

What thermal monitoring program are you using? What CPU, also? If you're using Core Temp, change the temp display to 'distance from TJMax' and see what it is then.

Your TJMax settings for the program could be set wrong.

i would hope he's just using his BIOS sensors if he's that concerned about high-temps... idling at 50C+ is ridiculous

i reseated my heatsink last night and it now idles at 25C, at 4.00Ghz... pushes 45 under normal gaming/task loads

No, that quote was for Uzique, to show that I think he's not using the BIOS to monitor his temps.

I'm using HW monitor.  Like I said, I know it's a direct result from not reapplying thermal paste when I took the heatsink off last week.  No overclocking, i7, 920.  I just want another heatsink because like I said I think my room is a little hotter than normal. Anyway I'll pick up a heatsink and reapply some thermal paste and then re-check the temps.

Yeah, not sure what it is, but with HD content it just cant pickup the signal.  If i power cycle it a few times or switch inputs evnentaully it MIGHT pick it up.  The LCD will flash HDMI likes itrying, then after awhile just go to "no signal"... sucks.  Standard def content over HDMI works fine though.
