The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Any recommendations for quiet but efficient 120mm fans? My HAF currently sounds like an airplane and would like some newer, better quality fans than the stock ones.

I'm sure I will be corrected on this... But I have 4 of these and they make next-to-no sound... I also only run them at ~75% speed..

Ball bearings, metal frame (the metal frame is pretty annoying if you want to mount them anywhere special tbh, I had to go to the local DIY store to get small bolts to hold them, since the screws they provided were made of the same metal as the fan and were self-cutting )

I have one 120mm Xigamatek and then 2 140mm from the same model and they're all quiet. The 120 I have plugged directly into the PSU so it spins at pretty max speed while the other two are plugged into the motherboard, making them spin with demand. I can certainly recommend them, €10 a piece and they're 16 dB. There are much quieter fans out there but they cost two to three times as much.

Could you elaborate on that? 5 years ago I was deciding between LCD tech and plasma and went the LCD way as plasma had too many issues. So how did plasma now become superior over LCD? I would thought people would be saving for OLED and 3D screens not going down the plasma way which here, are on the verge of extinction.

Plasmas have better contrast ratio, far better response time, and better colour accuracy than LCDs do. They're very similar to CRTs in the theory of operation. It comes at a cost of possible burn-in if you use it with static images.

Five years ago, plasmas weren't very popular, since they used LOTS of power and cost much more than LCDs did. However, this has improved quite a bit lately. My old 42" plasma would draw almost 600W when displaying an all-white image, which is horrendous. A modern 50-inch plasma won't even come anywhere near that.

...a 50-inch plasma, like this one, won't even reach 300W, ever.

LED power consumption is less and depth of field is usually better due to 120/240Hz refresh rates. The brightness is also better on an LED TV due to it's backlighting.

But Plasma/LED is still down to opinion. They're both very even right now, but what has to kept in mind is that Plasma is a finished technology, whilst LED is still growing.

I wouldn't quite agree. 3D plasmas are common these days, I actually considered one, but the extra 100€ wasn't worth it.

Additionally, the brightness of plasmas tends to be superior, especially considering that you don't need to use dynamic contrast to achieve good brightness as well as good blacks; you can have 600cd/m2 on the screen at the same time as you have maximum darkness, without one limiting the other. You can actually achieve contrast ratios of tens of thousands to one on plasmas.

Plasma most certainly isn't "finished", development is still very much moving forward in the higher-end segment. LCD simply hasn't caught up in terms of picture quality yet, response time and contrast in particular.

They display everything better. They're essentially flat CRTs, but rather than using electron rays to light up the phosphor, they use glowing plasma.

That depends on what you're viewing; a plasma panel will use very little power if you're viewing dark images, while they use a lot when viewing bright images. Dynamic contrast on LCDs give a similar phenomenon, but it's not as great as that of the plasmas. In the end, the difference isn't that great. Off the top of my head, I'd say that you end up with about 20% more power used with a plasma than with an LED-LCD.
