So I have this belkin fm transmitter for my ipod but it's real shitty. I have to wave it around my car until I find a good spot where it can sit with no static. Any recommendations for transmitters that can produce a solid, strong signal?

In my experience the ones that charge your ipod at the same time work the best. I've had bad results with the ones that plug into the 3.5 headphone jacks. Also note that some areas are heavily broadcasted. It's tough to get a good signal if there are stations creeping in on your chosen channel.

I use this one with my touch. It's good 90% of the time.

i probably have the same belkin one as you, and i don't think it's much different with other FM transmitters.  they're just so shit.  they're going to sound like shit and transmit like shit.  you're better off jerry-rigging a 3.5mm jack to plug right into your audio system and use the FM transmitter solely as a charger.

Mine sounds just like the radio, no static. Like I said.. where you live, it matters.

Which one are you using? .. the headphone jacks (which generally suck)? Where are the radio towers? (the closer the worse).. I imagine that your car antenna strength would also matter.

The point is that they can be good. aimless, try a charger/combo if you havent. Keep the receipt.

I had a Belkin one (charged and transmitted) and it worked pretty well. That said I still went to the trouble on installing a Aux in adapter in my car, quality is a lot better.

this one.  radio signals are weak where i live.  there are 5 stations i have saved as favorites, and two of those don't even work depending on where in town i am.

Friend of mine has this one and she loves it and it sounds great. We used it on a road trip and never had static problems...in fact, it would even play on stations that came in loud and clear...

Good luck.

that's the same one my bro has, it's pretty epic. and yes, 3.5mm jack transmitters are more often than not shite.
for a fatty you're a serious intellectual lightweight.

I had this one that worked perfectly until I lost it. At which point I wired an actual lead into the car radio. Easy to do and is by far the best solution. FM transmitters / tape adaptors are generally pretty shit and annoying.

I use this^ to play over my home receiver. My FM transmitter for my car is indistinguishable from a broadcast fm station.

Yeah but don't FM broadcasts sound shitty?

I use a tape adapter

Not much worse than what you get directly from your player. We're talking mp3s aren't we?

Yeah, but I'm no audiophile either. I guess it must be my location, though. Way too many frequencies, way too much interference; be it at home or out and about.

(As far as mp3s go, I keep everything in V0 or 320kbps, so it's not that bad)

My tape adaptor was definitely lower quality than my FM transmitter. Cable trumps both, obviously.
