I backed into this in another thread and just thought people could weigh in and expand on their arguments and points of view. Dolts can curse and swear.

I can go either way on this. In being consistent with the separation of the church and state, sponsoring religion with state funds is a bad idea.

On the other hand, some religious influences have been successful at turning some convicts' lives around.

This is true, on the whole most common criminals are very dumb. Some even seem to be happy to get back in jail. like its a thing they do well. There are exceptions.

What the hell does this question even mean? Yes, it has a place because people should be allowed to practice their religion even while they are in prison. No, it does not have a place in that our penal system should not have any sort of religious basis or approach.
