when poseidon finally has the crisis of the self that is imminently awaiting him upon maturity, and kills himself, i am going to release a commemorative black-metal remake of 'my beautiful dark twisted fantasy' on 100 limited-press CD-R's. i will distribute on a first-come, first-serve basis around bf2s. i promise it'll be the cultural highpoint of the next decade.

Shame on you. You should've rated it before you heard it.

Just by looking at the album artwork, it seems like it's trying too hard. Has that kind of "hurr durr i'm being artsy but also twisting it, isn't that cool and ironic and hip?"

i find it a touching impressionist rendition of the artist's inner angst, expressed eloquently in classical-mythical imagery and symbology

wow...you are good at that.

I think it(cover art) is like everything else about Kanye right now...shock value and annoying attention tactics.  "Hey look at me! Look at me!...now leave me alone /wink."

i find the invocation of the classical and spiritual through the use of angel's wings (possibly a twisted freudian allusion to his mother in heaven, rip), the subtle hints of drug-fuelled miscegenation, and the touching portrayal of our brutal animism through the use of bright, glaring teeth a highly successful mixture. the impressionist technique used to convey the scene (of mirth? of confusion? of anger? of mistaken identity? of racial angst? who knows) is also particularly pleasing; the flecked brush-strokes and strong use of colour paints a scene with a sense of rapidity, urgency and, just perhaps, artistic frustration.

overall i would say that the album art is one of the more significant visual art creations of our time.

comparatively, i would put this composition alongside other such thought provoking portraits as 'The Absinthe Drinker' by Degas, and 'Dr Gachet' by Van Gogh

i was actually quoting one of kanye's more magniloquent verses

his free flowing rhythmical association of 'nonce' with the doubly-effective 'ponce' in the next line is superb

I love this Album. Then again, I liked 808's when nobody else did. It was leaked a few weeks ago on the tubes so I've been listening to it for awhile, I'm gonna buy this though. Kanye has always been a top artist, it's just all his other shit that lets him down. IMO though this one is up there with his older albums. It's not a traditional hip hop album by all means but that sort of style is long gone anyway.

Devil in a new dress is almost like classic kanye though

There's actually not a track on this album I don't like, I don't think I've thought of that for an album before.

so i've listened to it about 5 times now

conclusion: self-indulgent wankery. it's SO self-indulgent. it's tackier than rococo. more self-loving than a Prince name-change.

it's just too much; the only way i can see someone loving this album is if they're obsessed by the cult of celebrity

the lyrics are laughable. the guest appearance list reads like a whos-who of superficial stardom. the production is predictable, overdone and absolutely nothing new. this album's main strength and the only point on which it approaches 'perfection' is in how well it just encapsulates the pop industry today. it's like kanye took everything about pop culture, quadruple distilled it and then shat out this manufactured, identikit record. just like 808's before it, it's nothing more than a postcard-snapshot of music trends today. what exactly does it do new? what's fresh about it? what do the songs and lyrics have to say, other than to just revel in his own self and his own ego? it's all bullshit.

of course the songs are 'listenable'- some are even 'catchy', i suppose. but with the amount of money and support that was pumped into it, you'd expect nothing less. it would be an utterly catastrophic failure if it was anything less, in fact. i suppose you could find this album 'good' if you're just happy for that: 'good'ness. in art i don't think there's anything applaudable in just being 'good' or 'satisfactory'. it's just a product made for the lowest common denominator and for the cash-in. but then again, i'm sounding like kanye now: this observation is nothing new. everything is so tired.

Whenever I listened to the lyrics I never actually thought of Kanye himself and how it relates to him, now that I do when listening to it again, I can see where people are getting the idea of how egotistical and celebricrap it really is. But I've never seen music past what I hear in my ears and how I can relate it to myself, I've never really focused on artists outside of what they do in the studio and release through the airwaves...

The only thing I don't like is that the really good tracks on there (So Appalled, Monster, Devil In A New Dress) were made free. But the album itself as a whole is quite good.
