Hi there !

I played BF2 for a while and decided to change my video card to get a better game experience, so I baught a new Nvidia 6600GT to replace my ATI9550. Everything was fine for some time (with 1.03 patch as well) but suddenly the game got weird : it freezed when the map is loaded and when you can choose your team and the first spawn flag. At this point : no more mouse, no more "Esc" key to enter the game menu, etc.

Did some of you experience such problems ?
I'm about reinstalling the game from scratch, I hope this will solve the problem !

Tell me, with reinstalling will I be able to fetch my account again or will it lost ?

Thanks a lot !
Bye,
Geeno

geeno, as the_heart_attack said about the account. With your 'freeze' problem though. I have a 6600GT but with the latest drivers, if you've just changed and not updated, you may experience some problems.... crashing, severe lag and suchlike. This is also a very resource hungry program, make sure you've enough of everything to go around and that there's no background programs running. I also have my graphics (BF2) set to medium, as before I had them on 'high', I had freezy problems. Hope this helps

Thanks for your advices mates !

I already tried several versions of the Nvidia drivers, but those on the CD sold with the card worked for some time. I saw this card working with that game for 2 or 3 days befor the problem occured for the first time !

I alsa have the PC power supply that goes down some time, I have to use the switch on it before the main power button works again. Is that an overheating problem ?

Thos hardware problems are so boring :-(

my mate was having a similar prob recently, we noticed that everytime it did it his light on the modem would go out, its a usb modem and turned out to be shagged motherbaord. normal programs like firefox and stuff would still run all day but whenever somthing graphicly challenging laoded it froze.

geeno, what you mean you didn't upgrade your power supply when you upgraded your graphics 'shock' . If you're using an older power supply, I think you could definitley do with a power upgrade... the 6600GT is a hungry beast and need extra feeding. I upgraded mine on advice and have never had a power outage

Ok I'll try a new power supply !

Anyway I reinstalled BF2 from scratch and I still have the problem :
I enter the game, the screen to choose player class, team and spawn point shows up, I hear the sounds of the game (planes, radio messages, gunshots, etc.) but I have no mouse to click ! the "Esc" key doesn't work neither.

Maybe sould I reinstall my whole system ?

Yeah, I have a 6600GT as well, AGP version, and ive had no problems with it. All of the problems i have had have stemmed from my other hardware, all of which is crappy

geeno, before you do the drastic reinstall... Have you tried the single player games? Do they have the same problems? .... and seriously, check for any unecessary background programs. Bf2 is very resource hungry and anything that takes away valuable resources will have an impact on the game........ Also check for spyware/adware, virus/trojan... do a clean up, do a defrag, do everything you possibly can to eliminate it being your pc.

If you've done everything and it still does it, post a copy of your system profile, I'm sure some tech heads might be able to help you

I had similar problem with mine. I found that all my key bindings had dissapeared. Everything worked in the game up to the point when you need to select a class and a spawn point and i could do nothing. i fixed it by giong into my settings and pressing the reset defaults button (I then had to reset my prefrences but thats no problem....!). It didnt correspond with upgrading to my 6600GT or installing software, it just sort of happened. It took me 3 hours and several reboots to workout what it was. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your support mates, I finally solved that problem !

With....a windows reinstall !

Anyway I still have that power supply problem : It really seems, as thinner44 said, that the 6600GT is a Power BEAST !

A strange thing : I was playin to test the game and I saw that all weapons were unlocked for me ! I'll pass the 1.03 upgrade anyway but that was fun

Glad you've finally resolved it ... Happy gaming

psssst, when you upgrade power supply, go for the super quiet one as I've heard others can be very noisy
