student politics here boils down to a campus popularity contest

a popularity contest between the socially isolated geeks and under-developed characters, if you will

they'll probably treat the fact that the fucking building security came to talk to them as some huge political 'victory'

they're squatting in a picture gallery worth like £10mill+

get some fucking respect. sat there on their macbooks, tweeting about their 'revolution'

honestly pisses me off
Well on the feed, someone commented that it was Vlad...who is that?

Father Vlad is the college chaplain. he's an incredibly smart, world-travelled intellectual. but has nothing to do with the politics of student funding or cuts. i could talk to him all night, though. i added him on facebook ( ) and he sent me a big long message about existentialism and pessimism and how he was interested in those philosophies (i guess he checked my 'books' section) and how he was working to integrate them into his russian-orthodox theology or something. crazy guy. crazy guy.

Rev. Dr. Vladimir Nikiforov is the Roman Catholic Chaplain and a visiting lecturer at Royal Holloway. Russian born, he was a prisoner of conscience in the USSR and later became a political refugee. He has many years of experience of pastoral work with the immigrants and expatriates in Sweden. He got his PhD in philosophy from Heythrop College, London. His academic interests are in the field of sociology of religion and philosophy. His monograph on the intellectual history of Europe in the 1900-1920 is published by the Edwin Mellen Press, New York (forthcoming this year).

"Being addicted to drugs, you always lose. But at least as a gambling addict, sometimes you win."

Pround quote? Or most profound quote?

Surely being addicted to drugs you always win every time you don't overdose? I wouldn't imagine there are many successful gambling addicts.

being addicted to anything and you lose

addiction is your own self-control and willpower being overcome by something external to yourself

if you aint the master of yourself, you're losing at life

and i mean addiction of every kind and any severity

it feels good to not even need a coffee everyday

makes me wonder, if gambling addicts finally won the lottery and hit the jackpot, would they still gamble? imagine how silly they'd feel. finally achieving their "goal", and then making it all go to waste because they figure they can finally afford the risk

they would still gamble, that's why it's an addiction.

asking if a gambling addict would stop when winning the lottery

is like asking if a drug addict will stop taking drugs when they peak out on heroin

if only there was a way to have unlimited money
or be constantly high

but then they'd still try to get more money, or get higher

gambling addicts gamble for the sake of gambling.

drug addicts get high for the sake of get high.

Just because they reach the peak of either gambling or getting high doesn't mean they'll stop getting pleasure from the activity.

but really you've just gotta learn to get high off life... cause it's the only stimulant for your brain that is free and in super-abundance

even if i was spending £1k a week on coke or something... i'd still plateau and then want more...

everything is best taken in moderation and nothing is more easily moderable than life
