The problem is that it's an imitation and we have something well-established to compare it to. If it were a novel idea, it might not seem as bad as it does. An imitation of one of the most widely-watched television programs in the world isn't exactly a recipe for success.

Watched the first 18 minutes as a bit of a study break... meh. The bit with the Dodge Viper was so overly scripted it wasn't even funny. Top Gear UK has its scripted moments in the little specials and whatnot, but at least it doesn't come off as scripted. Tanner also needs to learn that there's a reason race drivers don't make the jump into acting...

So is every TV show in one way or another. It's just a question of whether or not you like said repetitive material. I've yet to see one TV show where EVERY episode was truly unique and didn't follow some kind of set convention that carried itself throughout all the episodes (or at least the majority).
