Hey guys time for me to upgrade soon i made a build up just quickly is their anything i can improve on? My price range is around what it is now ill be using my old antec 900 case , HDD and coolermaster 650w PSU i already have a monitor but its only 19" so wanting a upgrade to a 24".

Not really a fanboy but id prefer staying with intel for the CPU. Going to be used for gaming + movies only.

Everything is in aussie $$ btw and the website is http://www.pccasegear.com.au/

Lots of new graphics cards are launched in first half of December. Can you wait?

Also worth debating is GTX 460 1GB is much more cooler and quieter but the OC models aren't that far behind the 470.

Yeahhhhhhh I should learn2read the OP.

Like Panzer said, 460 is a lot better card compared to the 470.. Aside from that it looks good.

Looks like a nice build mate, but I'd wait for the new cards if you want.

@Panzer The cooler is $70 and its another $40 or so for 2 fans.

Mate what about a sound card?

If you're making this build for gaming and music, grab yourself something that supports 7.1 and then pick up these:

Just something to consider.  If it's for gaming/movies and especially if only one GPU I'd personally look at a P55 set up.  you'll save $200+ easily (i5 760 the p55 version of the ud3r and 2x2 ddr3 1600) which will give you more $$ for a graphics card which will help gaming more than the i7 will.   Just some food for though.  The i7's shine in number crunching but gaming it gives little advantage (more on a multi gpu set up but still not huge) vs getting a better GPU.

Yeah i was thinking that but i thought this system would last me way longer between complete upgrades later on so id probably only have to upgrade the gpu later down the track if that makes sence.

Well I definitely wouldn't see it lasting way longer but if that's the case you can up the processor to the i7 870 and be really close to the 950 for your uses and still save 150ish (quick guess the P55 board is about $75 cheaper and you can get a set of G.Skill 2x2 with the same timings and speed for $70 cheaper)or so for a better GPU.  Just kind of throwing you some options as IMO for your uses 1366 is overkill.  It's main advantages are pure number crunching and benching.

Also just another question, are you planning on overclocking or not?

Hows this look now pretty sure the performance should be better for gaming and the price is still less then the previous build i made in the first post. I picked 2 gtx 460s but realized that the board only supports crossfire so i changed it to 2x 6850's (both cards the exact same price).

btw if your wondering what the 2 fans are for they are for the cpu cooler doing a push-pull and the 3rd fan is for the empty fan slot on my case window.

let me know what you guys think ill probably end up waiting for the new series of cards coming out tho.

Edit: also not sure about ram i picked 4gb 2x2 since p55 has dual channel not triple channel also just wondering if my old PSU will be enough its a cooler master extreme power 650w specs here http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=45

Well it's a good downgrade for about $100.

I think the first build was better. i7s kick ass. That Gigabyte 460 is awesome, though.

Though the fan is starting to go faulty on mine.

What are you talking about, downgrade. i7 vs an i5 has very little gain, especially in games.

The two 6850s are tremendously more powerful than a single 470, check this chart

All in all it's fantastic improvement at not a lot more cost.

What have you been smoking, HD 6850 is over 170€ here, GTX 470 is less than 220€. Of course adding more than 100€ in the budget gets more performance, but doing CF with lower end cards is particularly stupid.

Not going by local prices, going by his prices.

e:  Not to mention the 470 is, well, rubbish.

Lower end CF isn't really great option, you can have a look at the pic you linked, even HD 6870 has 3 times higher minimum fps, not to mention the other problems with multi-gpu setups.

I am pretty sure almost all P55 boards support SLi too, will check that board or equivalent with SLi support.

e: ASUS P7P55D PRO or similar should be around same price level as that Gigabyte but support both SLi and CF.

But really think what you are getting, CF/SLi are always more problematic than fast single GPU.

One GTX 460 or HD 6870 or wait for GTX 570 and HD 6970 launches in December. If you opted for first but still feel its not enough, then talk about grabbing another one.

I would seriously wait for the new cards, HD 6950/70 or the GTX 570 would be right in the price range.

e: You can always get the rest but leave out the graphics cards for now and see how it goes.
