I'm not too enthused with its performance benchmarks vs the HD5xxx series. Let's see what drivers can do for it.

e: If NV plans to price this to aggressively compete with the 5970, I'm all for it.

unless they get 15-20% increase i can see the 6970 being better not to mention amd has been working on a new architecture for over a year already. i cant see the 6970 not being at least 10% better then this looking at the 6870's performance. Not sure how they could get much of a performance leap out of this with drivers being that its still a fermi unless they rushed it just to beat amd to the market (this almost definitely is what happened).

Either that or they're going to completely bushwhack the market with something completely different, leaving the GTX580 behind as the abandoned bastard cousin of the 9800GTX.

Anyway, I hope Intel's graphics ambitions drop on the both of them (NV/AMD) like a ton of bricks, driving prices into the dirt.

at least this card is better then its predecessor the 9800 line was a complete joke and well we are on the subject what happened to desktop nvidia 300 series. I cant wait to see intel put out there cards to hopefully the can be competitive like they said they were going to be.

Ironically, I have like two 9800GT's and two 9600M GT's.

20% boost, run much cooler, pretty much quietest highend reference cooler aswell. Same launch price as with the old cards. Single GPU meaning no multi-GPU hassle.

Whats not to like?

PS. HD 69xx was delayed, acute VRM component shortage and not finished BIOS = they tune the clockspeeds upwards because of 580.
