Groovy/10 And now I need to find and watch ED1 and Army of Darkness.
After those you need to watch My name is Bruce
Also, Evil Dead 2 is basically a redo of Evil Dead 1. If you want to cut straight to the meat, watch Army of Darkness next.
Well, since I've already google'd the tree rape scene, I might as-well do that.

Not bad, a bit jumbled and not as great as the first but still liked a lot of it.

On a related subject, if/when I tie up and torture someone I shall be making myself up like this.

Revolver 8/10

Very under rated movie. A lot of people hate it. And I don't mind admitting I had to watch it twice to fully appreciate it's depth, either.

The first watch left me pretty confused, too. Forgot about it completely, thanks for reminding me to give it a second spin.

once upon a time in the west

best western ever made. the title and the embedding of the story into the conquest of the west by the railroad illustrate perfectly the irrelevance and the casualness of the events. also, a wonderful nontypical western...

I liked that it often presented situations which seemed so obvious that I thought I had predicted what would happen next only to be proven wrong. But without much fuss and big pomp.

i like the way it skirts the border between realist portrayal and absurdist themes... utter pointlessness, really

but still crafts a narrative out of it

Terry Pratchett's Going Postal: 8/10

Couldn't handle waiting until DECEMBER for the bastard to ship from the UK, so watched it through *ahem* other means while it's still stuck in post. I can't find news of a pending US release anywhere. O.o

e: Next movie's 'Unseen Academicals,' which makes fun of soccer and sports in general. Just read the book recently, and am looking forward to watching it.

Discworld runs along parallel series. There's one that's specifically teen-oriented, as far as I know. Other than that, Pratchett's books are well worthy of adult reading. Try 'Good Omens,' which is one he wrote with Neil Gaiman.

i read pretty much all of the discworld novels when i was a kid, and have read through a few of his more recent ones, quickly, just out of a childish urge to see what's going on in that little world he has created now. i wouldn't call it good fiction, tbh. populist satire, at best. and his writing has definitely deteriorated in recent years- sad but true. in fact i remember enjoying the weird department store trilogy more than discworld as a kid. truckers, diggers and wings... i think that's what they're called. pratchett is a popular writer, and i can see why. but i really don't agree or see the appeal in his books as 'adult reading'.

I suppose it depends on personal tastes and one's willingness to engage in suspension of disbelief. Comic fantasy is one of my favorite genres, so I guess Discworld just fits.

I haven't read many of the recent Discworld novels, but I pretty much didn't put down 'Unseen Academicals' until I was done.

pretty sure the last one i read was 'thief of time' or something, and that wasn't that good compared to the earlier stuff.

i remember some of the first books i ever got my parents to buy me in hardback were the discworld saga-collections, heh

Scott Pilgrim vs the World - 9/10

Invasive special effects actually have a point. Other than that, clean editing and good story. My only problem is the origin for all these superpowers, which wasn't necessary to explain the movie, but would've been nice.

Spoiler (highlight to read):
At first I thought Ramona was seeping superpowers onto her boyfriends, but people took it for such granted that I figured it was kind of a done deal for that universe, like any comic book.

I'm actually starting the (main) series over again to fill in the gaps. Up next is filling in the holes for Robert Asprin's Mythx.
