The karma system in this game is fucked up.

The benefits of having good karma and being nice to everyone far outweigh the benefits of being a mass murdering sociopathic asshole. There really isn't any incentive to be evil and make enemies like there was in fallout 3 and the KOTORs.

Anyway, I got banned from one of the casinos since I was running around 9000 caps profit from the blackjack table. At the ultra lux the blackjack tables are easier to make caps on then the casino I was banned at. So I'm running about 4000 profit from there easy. I'm just curious is there a way to not get banned from a casino or is it inevitable once you run a high profit? I'm idolized by the white glove society, so will that make a difference?

Doesn't make a difference, some places have higher limits than others, but once you earn above that limit they will cut you off..

And you can negate any karmic wrong-doing by going to west Vegas and killing some fiends.  I was completely evil before I found Vault 3 and I've had very good karma ever since.

Alright is it just me or is there way more fetch, find, and investigate missions in New Vegas than there was in FO3? I remember there was a lot more 'dungeon crawling' in FO3 then there were fetch, finds, and investigates missions.

Also the 'dungeon crawling' missions here are pretty lame. Either they are low on things to actually fight, the things to fight are weak, or both. Like Spoiler (highlight to read):
the one were you had to turn on the power for the air force base and were warned about the exploding ants. There were only 4 ants and none of them even got close to enough to do damage if they did explode which they wouldn't because it only took 3 or 4 hollow point 9mm rounds to kill them.

It's just going to be extra areas like the Repconn Test Site I guess... Don't see how else they can "add" to the game when they locked themself into factions like this

I agree completely, there were way more funny/trivia/lore references hidden around in Fallout 3 that made exploring fun... in NV there are next to nothing of that sort, which really removes the "exploring" part of the gameworld

3 had about 30 marked quests while NV has almost 200. Of course there are going to be more quests that aren't as involved.

Exploring was still much more rewarding in FO3 regardless of quest-numbers...

And stop bringing up the number of Quests as an argument... The only thing that causes this is Obsidian splitting all related quests up into seperate sidequests where FO3 used a more gathered system where quests were longer and had more tasks x_X

Personally, I'd like to see 'modern' rpg's move away from the checklist-based smash/grab/fetch side-quest system into the more fluidic sort of reputational dynamics based on player decision making in random scripted and non-scripted encounters. Apart from the 'main quest,' certain reputation levels could offer secondary quests that are as detailed as the main quests, thereby giving you an actual reason to try for them.

I tried about five minutes of Gothic 4 and killed about six rats that the game wanted me to kill before the thing crashed and I uninstalled.

But that's the thing. With NV, most of the side areas are tied to a quest. While in FO3 they are just there to so you can explore them. NV has way more locations than FO3, and the locations have about the same variety to them. But in NV they were made relevant to quests and such, while in 3 they were just there. FO3 was just empty while NV was full of shit to do. In FO3 the reason it felt like you were exploring was because the game would was organized in such a way that you had the cluttered DC area in the bottom corner, and then everything else was just scattered about in the remaining rest of the map. The world was just empty. In NV they organized the world in a way that made sense, around a major road and the most interesting place in the world was at then end of that road.

The exploration in FO3 also not even really that good. You go to the Gary Vault only because you want to see the Gary Vault. There wasn't anything to do with most of the locations, even the Vaults and Intricate caves aside from see that they were there. Maybe scrounge for some loot, but by the time you've progressed to the point where you are going to explore like that, the most common enemy has the best weapon and the best armor, so the loot is hardly a reason to explore.

NV's exploration had a purpose driving you to do it, the quests. And the way the game was organized meant that a low leveled character was only directed toward areas that he was capable of dealing with, while directed away from the dangerous ones, until he was strong enough.
