bleaching dark shirts

i have a dark blue shirt that has terrible, terrible oil stains on it. i honestly have no idea how they got there. i really don't. that's how bad they are. anyway, since i already laundered it and only noticed it when i put it on this morning, i figure the oil stains are already set. so i was thinking of bleaching the entire shirt so that hopefully it turns white or even just a light blue so the stains won't show as much. if you bleach a dark shirt enough, does it turn completely white?

hopefully, but if not, it should be a near-white color where oil stains won't show as much. that's my thinking anyway...

I got bleach all over a dark blue shirt by accident once. ended up with orangey yellow blobs all over it

I'd type my pc specs out all fancy again but teh mods would remove it. Again.

no.

Try using dish soap to get the oil out of it...or shampoo. But dish soap should work.

But bleaching a dark blue shirt won't turn it white. And if you leave the shirt in the bleach too long it will compromise the fibers and make it thin and brittle.

...also, with my experience with bleaching tote bags...the resulting color upon bleaching can change based on the materials used. Synthetic fibers and natural fibers bleach differently, so if it is a blend it will be uneven.

Not kidding at all. My mom accidentally got bleach on a black t-shirt of mine when I was a kid. It ended up being a black shirt with yellow spots all over it. So we threw it in a bucket of bleach for a week to make it white and it came out a dirty yellow.

bleaching will also weaken the fibers of the shirt ..... diminshing the life of your shirt

you could try shout .................. literally.... shout at your shirt and see what happens

well i have plenty of work shirts with an assortment paint, grease, and rips and such. i guess i'll try the dishwashing soap...
