but im not going to back down from my original principle-statement: that £1k i7 gaming pc's are a waste nowadays

Life is too short. If it fulfills a purpose, there is no such thing as throwing away money needlessly. You just proved it by the effect of not getting the pc fixed. Personally, screw getting it fixed. £1k is pocket change for what you get versus repairing. Well at least for me, and I'm sure, as well for you.

The reason I first questioned your post is because I honestly did not make the connection that not having a desktop would mean you go out and spend loads at a bar. Especially as you still had your laptop.
