That would also close a lot of independent and small churches and shift a lot of church membership and power to those damned mega churches. That would be a very bad thing to do TBH

Mine would be that US politicians can be found guilty of treason by a 2/3rds vote in their state by a ballot initiative and the automatic penalty is death by public hanging at that states capitol.
Yes, trial by public opinion with automatic death sentence to hold these bastards accountable to the people they represent. Make people think twice about a career in politics, definately would want to get out quick when people start catching you getting greedy.
Idiot.
Go fag up another thread gaga.

I was serious in the OP. If the people who elected (supported) you can turn on you (from majority for you to 2/3rd wanting you executed) then obviously you are a serious traitor.jord wrote:
A better thread would be what law would you remove. Obviously without the rediculous trollesque example though.
But just knowing there is a chance that being a traitor could cost you your life would keep many of these self centered unAmerican half wits from running for office and the other half from sponsoring anti-American legistlation.
LOL - That would acheve a great deal....Lotta_Drool wrote:

Maybe a fat tax - make income tax a function of BMI
But really, make fraud in public or private office much easier to prosecute as a criminal offence.
No more execs getting away with fines paid by insurance, Police officers retiring on full benefits to avoid 'disciplinary' proceedings when they should be in prison.
Could cover politicians passing anti-national laws.
Give much more power to shareholders in companies, right now they have next to none.
Restrict unions to dealing with safety, unfair dismissal and hourly pay rate.

I'm not a D&ST regular and there are probably much much better answers, but I'd like to convert the US to the metric system. It's about time. We're in good company with Burma and Liberia
And yes, that is a law. Anyone not practicing metric will be drawn and quartered.

I would enact a law where people must pass a IQ test, income test and relationship counselling before they are allowed to have children. Thus, hopefully eliminating the growing percentage of "forgotten" and undereducated children.
I second this! But I'd add this to having animals as well.Little BaBy JESUS wrote:

People that seriously consider IQ testing laws are worse than the people they think they are targeting

People should be required to have their IQ tattooed on their forehead.
It would solve so many problems.

not sure if troll.....
(actually the christianity part is a hint, innit)
Anyway, yes, having no taxes, and everyone pay for public services on a monthly fee... worked real well in Tennesee now, eh?
nah, but seriously, maybe something along the lines of public service pay cap (at least make it so you can't vote to raise your own fucking pay...) or perhaps a fine for the loser in a court case... hmm, need to work on that one....
I also like the idea about limiting power of unions... UAW, anyone?
Additionally, the issue with corporations, and how they're run, seems to be an interesting topic.

No. Certain projects are long term and require oversight (you know how long it takes to build a nuclear power plant?). It is worth keeping people around that know what's going on. Which also leads to leads to another problem. Some government agencies staff/administrations can in many cases outlast a legislator. They keep their head down just long enough to outlast that term limit. Now they've got a new guy who's learning the ropes they rinse and repeat. They know far more about their field than the guys elected to run the show do... So guess who really holds the reigns..SenorToenails wrote:

Term limits aren't always a good thing.
Just because one can get elected on a platform of ideals doesn't mean he'll know how to get it done or how the intricacies/bureaucracy of how it all works -and he gets taken for a ride.
Also, lobbyists don't have term limits. I've seen them first hand work the new guy who doesn't know this issue. Starry-eyed freshmen legislators are vehicles for their agendas.
On topic...
I thought about this some more (which made me see the above reply). I would bring back dueling. Pistols at 10 paces. Fuck yea.
