Maybe so.
Or maybe a man of faith wanting to be a new voice for our values  should be more careful to not be photographed while playing dress up.
Thousands of people are reenactors in this country. Shit, my dad used to be a Civil War reenactor and was an extra as a Confederate soldier in the movie Glory. He didn't harass the black extras and try to return them to their owners when the filming was over
They do the Peninsular War Battles here too. Can't help but see them as a bunch of clowns.

Sure, and should it simply be British, Portuguese and Spanish units represented? The French committed atrocities against the civilian population after all... (The British did too, in Spain).

No, he doesn't. Reenacting is all about reliving history. History shouldn't be censored. Go to a Holocaust museum sometime and they'll have a recreation of a gas chamber. It doesn't mean they want to gas the guests
I went to Auschwitz once and had to throw up afterwards. Reliving History is a lot of times a miserable morbid fest.

There were SS units in WWII and they were some of the best units in the German army.
SS Wasn't in the Army, it was the armed wing of the Nazi party.
They had the best training, the best equipment, and the best espirit de corps
More they were Hitlers purest Aryans and most loyal ideologues, and as a result he favoured them with the best gear.

If you can't see the problem in dressing up as SS then I can't help you.
Anyone could see the problem with why dressing up as the SS could come across as wrong. However, to do a re-enactment properly you need all the elements of the battles. For stalingrad/any russian battle, you'd need commisar's shooting their soldiers in the backs. If we censor everything we won't remember the horrible things that the antagonists in war did, and how we can prevent them. And no offence, but I'd reather dress up as an SS officer than an American Vietnam soldier who shot a volunteer in the back for no other reason than the fact he was upset to be in 'nam.

US politicians should think about whether they want to dress up as war criminals, that is all.

No one should dress up as American GIs since they didn't take any prisoners after Malmedy.

Good. If you're sickened by it you're not likely to repeat it. Thats one of the points of re-enactments.

I'm more concerned about the "conservative man of faith" part than the Nazi reenactment part.

What ties to racism? The fact that they dislike a president who happens to be black? There were millions of people who hated Clinton and Carter but they weren't labeled racist.

Does that make sense?

I'm not saying it isn't. It's just something I was exposed to as a child so I have a deeper understanding of what goes on behind it than most people. My dad has a friend who did WWI reenacting as well. His entire basement was full of Imperial German WWI memorabilia.

Aall political systems suck, just some more than others. Canada's politics suck because nothing gets done, no one agrees on ANYTHING. And the politicians at like children in the legislature and the parliament.

The Russian and Soviet militaries should be wiped from the history books. The US cavalry should be wiped from history because they slaughtered Native Americans. Let's delete everything that makes us uncomfortable and instead glorify only the happy sunny days.

Most of those tea party groups bend over backwards to try to get black people to join their organizations so that they can dispel the whole racist thing.

It reminds me of how the news was playing the story of a guy showing up to a rally with a rifle over his shoulder and how it's threatening to Obama and racist rah rah rah. The news stories didn't show the guys face of course but the people who came with him recorded the event. It turned out the guy with a rifle was a black guy who had a legal permit for it.
