I know BF2 will run a lot faster with a 2 gigs of ram. Right now I have a 1 gig stick of basic Corsair value ram. Should I go through the hassle and price loss of selling that and getting 2 gigs of performance ram like XMS, or will another stick of value ram work about the same?

I have an Athlon 64 3500 cpu (e3 stepping) on a nForce4 SLI mobo.

no... ram timings are only important if you plan on overclocking the ram. The timings have to match if you're getting mixed ram for best results. Say 512 now and 512 later. you want the timings to be the same.

Yes you should and it's not that much hastle,

Ram isn't that expensive if you wait for deals on newegg, you can get 2G of really good ram for around 150 bucks.

You'll probably get more out of better RAM (as has been said), but its all relative to how much of a performance enthusiast you are, weighed up against how much dosh you got to spend. If you can afford it, you might be better off getting better RAM, but another value stick of the same model and timings will give you a good boost as well, especially if its in dual channel. I've got two matched 512 Corsair value select sticks in dual channel and they work great, always one of the first into maps.

The OCZ 2-3-2-5 2x1GB matched pair have been mentioned in this thread. I'd like to add that they are little more expensive than your Corsair Values, if you add the (sometimes not 100% guaranteed) $50 rebates. See newegg.

I recommend 2x1GB over 4x512MB, particularly with 4x mixed RAM. Why? I tried out some Corsair DDR400 CMX's mixed with some Corsair DDR400 TWINX's, The latency differences were very minor, but Battlefield 2 and benchmarking actually yielded poorer results with 2GB in this fashion than they did with 1GB of the 2-2-2-5's.
