wtf is up with american and canadian subscriptions to internet or cellphone networks?

Rediculous simlock periods
Rediculous limits
Generally silly plans
We have retarded laws when it comes to technology.  Plus all the ISPs and wireless providers price fix like mad so theres no competition whatsoever.

To be fair, we have much, much lower population density than most of Europe so the infrastructure to build new networks is way more expensive.
Price fixing is illegal here
Its illegal here too   Doesnt stop them from doing it though

Unlimited texts from £30/month

Forgot about the new legislation, phone companies aren't actually allowed to give out 'unlimited' access anymore, but 500MB. Which is still way more than you're ever going to use. I barely use 10MB on my GPRS phone a month.
oh, that's not what I meant.

I want to pay for what I use - I don't use my phone enough to warrant £20+/month packages.

Like, the one I have in Norway now is like so:

8p / minute
4p / text
40p / MB

with the first £17 free, thus I usually pay zero pr. month..

Anything similar in the you-kay?
Yes, it's called pay-as-you-go. And if you don't even break into the £17 margin, you have no friends at home
not pay-as-you-go, that's insanely expensive.

Can I not just get a bill after every month that varies depending on my usage?

£17 (for which I pay zero) on my norwegian network gets me what £45 would on the PAYG's.

PAYG over here is pretty much the same across all networks, 10p/text, dunno how much/minute, but you also get bonuses, for example I'm on a PAYG sim where I top up £10, get the £10, 300 texts, and 100MB internet.

Dunno but I've never heard of anything like that plan you've got.

Do you use it in Scotland? Or do you have a new plan here?

I used up the free £17, before switching to a Lebara PAYG.. Can't set-up a contract until my RBS account is working.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

£1600 for a consumer laptop, eww. Should've gotten a Lenovo or HP for that money.

The Probooks in that price range come with some hefty graphics hardware if you want to, the same goes for the Lenovo W series.

oh look sweet floppy is complaining about other people having/spending more money than him

one of these days all the bitter griping will make him feel better about himself when he looks in the mirror

lenovo fanboys suck off their products over apple-macs

then the next minute say even lenovo's are too expensive

i love people that get all caught-up with price wars for no fucking reason

I've now used my Lenovo for ~5 hours.

The keyboard is fantastic, it really is. Much better than all the other laptop keyboards I've tried. It's also silent, doesn't heat up, has a good battery, the bundled software is actually USEFUL, they built and shipped it faster than they said, and though it's not in MBP-class in terms of looks, it's a hell of a lot better than the older Lenovos.

I like it \o/

Oh, I meant the Elitebooks. There's an 8740w with some pretty decent graphics available in Finland for about 1700€.
