Sounds like you had some sad experiences with curses and being primary Jestar. If I was worried about ship costs I'd stick to flying harbingers and not know how to fly every T2 amarr ship short of a Black ops. Flying expensive ships and winning is one of the better things in Eve, so rain on my parade some more chaps.

Well, we fly with a lot of E-War from all races along with a random assortment of faction ships and T2 cruisers. I'm not trying to make our fleet seem 1337. All I'm sayin' is I got just as a good a chance as the next guy.
