Bush sang Star Spangled Banner en español during 2000 campaign
Wed May 03 2006 09:35:20 ET

"When visiting cities like Chicago, Milwaukee, or Philadelphia, in pivotal states, George W. Bush would drop in at Hispanic festivals and parties, sometimes joining in singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” in Spanish, sometimes partying with a “Viva Bush” mariachi band flown in from Texas."

So writes author Kevin Phillips in his book AMERICAN DYNASTY.

Last week, at the height of the illegal immigrant's boycott build up, Bush told reporters: "I think the national anthem ought to be sung in English."

I saw it on Drudge and figured it was good for a laugh. There was also a picture of Dubbuya holding a little girl waving a mexican flag on the site. I found that most amusing.

This is no different that what every politician does.  They do whatever will cater to the group from which they are trying to get votes.

His brother Jeb, speaks spanish all the time. After all he does govern Miami. You will find most Floridians like Jeb. The way he manages hurricanes is alot better than most of what we have seen lately.

Yeah, I don't recall any references to breaking chains of bondage in the original first stanza. If they want to mutilate any intentions of being reasonably assimilated into our society, then  they have taken the proper action. English may not be our official language in terms of federal law, but it is an undebatable stance to say that it is not the language of the United States. And as well, if the intention of these individuals is to contribute to our society, I am curious as to how successful they will be by slandering the hegemonious faction of our culture. An interesting technique certainly.

Good point, Until Katrina it was accepted hurricanes were handled by the Governor of the State or states it made landfall in. The US Pres would fly down shake hands. Etc. then Sign the Check. This hurricane and insuing flood, was politicized beyond belief. Andrew was Much worse save for the Flood wich anyone who ever saw the Levies knew was going to happen sooner or later. but. Hey, thats another story.

Jeb speaks spanish because his wife is Hispanic.  But I totally agree with the statement that politicians will do almost anything to win votes.  Show me a politician that was actually worried about the constituents, and I will show you a golden ticket to Willy Wonka's Candy Factory.

It really pisses me off how these immigrants come here illegally and they break our laws, don't learn our language or history, don't pay taxes, don't celebrate out holidays but instead theirs, show all their pride for the shitty country that they LEFT because it sucks, and then they get all pissed off when we call them not American lol.

The main difference between them and ALL other immigrants to the US in the past is that: Every other group of immigrants CONFORMED to American Society. All the other groups learned our language, history, laws, and society. They had to work their asses off to come here and start a new life. And these illegal bastards don't even bother to be glad to be here.

So the way to be a good American is to CONFORM to society.  Duly noted.

We have a history of oppressing immigrants here in America.  Chinese, Irish, Mexican, Italian, Mexican again, Arabs.  I think we here in the forums should have some sort of prize-pool for the first person to guess the ethnicity of the next immigrants we oppress.

Well i'm not saying to conform to everything, I am just saying that is you are coming to America you should be American, not if you come to American you should try to change it to your old country.

And I agree we have always oppressed one group or another here in America, it's like the new kid at school XD

None of this proves anything more that George W, like so many other presidents, is a politician. Perhaps not the most glib of speakers we've ever seen, but still a politician.

The next ethnicity to be oppressed will be the Caucasian majority of the moment( I can completely neglect the immigrant part right?). Considering the banal attitude we have towards the developing oppression ( based off of minorities desire to be victimized by the majority race, and ability to take advantage of it) of the majority, I don't think it out of line to think that the White race is next in line. You note the Irish, and a legitimate example they are, but the Caucasian individual has been generalized to the point of being just a White person, so I will neglect that example and refer to it as an entirely novel group.

Dude, I'm from Florida.  He's governer of FLORIDA.  He governs from Tallahassee.  Most Floridians DONT like Jeb.  Especially after pinellas county was almost turned into an island by hurricane Charlie, back in fall of 2004, and how most people (including me and my parents) couldn't get off of the peninsula due to traffic jams on the Howard Franklin and shitty out of date evacuation routes.  The experts were saying half of my home city (including Tampa and Clearwater) would be underwater, if we took a direct hit.  Lucky that didn't happen, because we had no where to go.  But it still sucked for all of the people at Punta Gorda.

Plus, he's been trying to get my dad and the rest of the attornies that do death penalty appeals fired, like he did with the Tallahassee branch, and replace them with private lawyers with practically zero experience.

Once again, you completely missed my point.  I was pointing out that our hurricane escape plans/routes are the same if not worse compared to Louisiana's.  I didn't 'blame' my government for having a hurricane almost hit us, I'm criticizing it because me and my friends were still in school 5 hours before it was scheduled to hit(that's not a lot of time to evacuate at least 100,000 people off of a peninsula).  Then when I got home, we learned that we were literally trapped on this island, because all of the people who lived in 'white' zones (areas which were relatively safe from flooding, located more inland) started evacuating for no apparent reason, and people like me and my family (who live 50 yards from Tampa Bay) were screwed.  THAT is human error, my friend.  Hurricane Charlie  was a category 4, if it had gone through Tampa Bay, like it was scheduled to, my house would've been completely underwater (along with half of the city, too)

The only Floridians who like Jeb are the red necks who live in the center of the state, including other towns on the coast, (such as Pinellas Park, which is 80-90 percent white, and I have yet to see anyone from any minority in that place).

Yes, I did miss your point until you illustrated it more clearly. What's your plan next time? I was in the Keys during Katrina. I would not want to do it again. We really just got lucky.
Ps don't use terms like Redneck as it will be seen as Racist and a Sweeping generalization at best.

Call me ignorant, but why is redneck a racist term? Not being American and all that, I wouldn't know, but I was under the impression it was just for ignorant people that talk funny. I don't exactly see where race comes into that?
