An ignorant one who doesn't realise they're not doing this so everything looks awesome and pretty. Obviously being a chick she probably only thinks everything in general is done for reasons of being awesome and pretty. So then she turns around and says who cares what it looks like, not realising she's still conforming to what people assume her to be.

Y'all feel what I'm saying, right.

If I was given the job to redesign the US coin system (ignoring all the extraneous expenses and public confusion attached), I'd go with something like this:

ValueNickDiameterThicknessEdgeUsageObverseReverseColor
.01Penny18mm1.4mmplainlimitedLincolnUnion shieldcopper
.05Nickel20mm1.5mmreededwideJeffersonCape Disappointment Lighthousedull silver
.10Dime22mm1.6mmplainwideFDRMarine Corps War (Iwo Jima) Memorialsilver
.25Quarter24mm1.7mmreededwideWashingtoncontinue 'America the Beautiful' themedull silver
.50Half-dollar26mm1.8mmplainwideJFKApollo 11 LM on lunar surfacesilver
1.00Gold dollar28mm1.9mm10-sidedwidedecd US presidents/prominent legislators & governorsAmerican eagle motif or state sealgold
2.50Two-fifty30mm2.0mm25-sidedlimiteddecd US civil & equal rights/immigration figures (+unintended)relevant to each faceinr milled; gold (inner 80%) / silver (outer 20%)
5.00Five32mm2.1mmserratedwideSeries 1: decd US science/exploration figures; Series 2: decd prominent US captains of industryrelevant to each facesilver

*$1.00 bill still in wide circulation until the coin catches on; $2.00 bill removed from circulation; $5.00 bill remains in circulation
If things are a buck-99, with taxes the total's going to push over two bucks. So a $2 coin doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I suppose the same could be said for a dollar, though. I just like $2.50 better. Couldn't bring myself to make a tree-fiddy, though.

e: (yeah, I put way too much thought into this)

Two-fifty seems extraneous. Also, use inches, not metric, you heathen!

They're actually more easily measured in metric.

Metric, like soccer, is something they've been saying is the wave of the future for the past fifty years

The system of measurement hardly matters. What matters is that they're evenly scaled. And Imperial(e:/US customary) sucks when you have to start dicking around with fractions of an inch.

1/8 in.
3/16 in.
1/2 in.

etc

I use those all the time in construction because that's what everything here gets measured in and is also what everything here seems to be cut in. But in my opinion, a 10-base system wins over that any day.

You'll see metric if you're working with bolts or something. God damn toolboxes in the US are twice as heavy because they include both kinds of sockets. But with coins, if I'm not mistaken the mints all measure by metric.

Duh. I'm just fucking with you man.

Nothing more frustrating than designing a project and then having to convert it all into AS.

There's a fatal flaw in your design. Every cash register in America would have to be redesigned and replaced

And vending machines. I know.

ignoring all the extraneous expenses and public confusion attached
Also, people would have to get used to the resizing of .01<.05<.10<.25

Only old people pay with em actually.

I for myself keep em, roll em and bring em back to the bank every now and then, not really worth it you might say but at least i dont trow money away like everyone does with those pennies.
I hate doing that. None of the machines I've tried are very good at counting them, and my time is more valuable than manually counting out each roll for $0.50 value. I'd rather take the 'commission' hit and drop everything into a coinstar.

What really pisses me off about it is I end up with like 80 rolls of pennies, but less than a dozen rolls combined of any other type of coin.
