FDR on any currency is valid since he did more to destroy the value of the dollar than anyone else.
I think you meant to say Harding.
He's responsible for the Fed, FDR is responsible for gold confiscation and the end of the gold standard.
Well, that and the fact that a lot of the world was moving against it.  France pretty much made sure of that.

Gold makes currency devaluation to hide bad debts much harder

probably because you don't make enough of them and let the bills stay in circulation
Why on earth would a $1 coin be more convenient?
i find cash in general to be inconvenient but if i had £1 notes knocking around with the higher value notes i think it would annoy me

but i'd prefer if everywhere and everyone just used cards, it would probably cut crime a lot too
I mostly use my debit card. I hate carrying cash, especially here.

I do too. Much easier to keep track of how much you spend.

I even have one of these:

Just curious, in the US has there ever been much talk of dropping the dollar bill in favour of a dollar coin?
Over time, this may become a more desirable mode of currency.  Inflation will eventually render the dollar bill as insignificant as the quarter currently is.

In all honesty, Australia has an excellent plastic material they use for their "paper" currency that seems to be very durable.  It's much more useful than the cloth-like material we use.  We should convert to using that material.

Yup. I want to kill people whenever I hear them complain of overdraft fees. Seriously manage your money better.

[insert a paragraphs of random complaints about humanity here]

I agree, but...  at the time, a commodity based system was unwieldy.

I think we've come full circle though, so we may switch back to something like a Gold Standard eventually.
