I'm trying to get some intel on the possibilties of being called into Active Duty if I sign up for the Naval Reserve. The recruiter said that the chances are slim, but you know how those guys work... I keep trying to say to myself; "I'm prior service, why would this cat lie to me?".
To get to the point, my wife is fairly apprehensive about me going back into service after serving overseas in Iraqi Freedom while I was in the Marines and doesn't want to have the stress of worrying about my ass getting killed in some crap hole country. I want to serve again, but I want to keep her happy too.
I just need a straight answer from someone who isn't a recruiter. What are the chances of being called up to Active?
If it helps at all, I'm thinking about Gunner's Mate. I get to retain my rank and don't need to do any training.
Any help from a Sailor/ or any service member with a better handle on Reservist duties than I is greatly appreciated!
