Those temperatures (under load) are very safe indeed. Intel CPUs running within voltage specs will do just fine as long as they're under 90°C. If you're referring to idle temperatures, I stand by my previous statement; they don't matter.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Does anyone know how I can setup a vent-music-bot while keeping itunes playing through my external soundcard?

:S

If itunes could play through both my onboard and external that would be a fine solution... I don't know how to do that.
Why not just use another media player?
I'd like to be able to play what I'm listening to and not have to control 2 audio applications.
so you have no ideas freezer?

Not really. I know that it's very easy to do on some sound cards (Old Soundblaster Lives to be exact), but it's not as easy on your standard-issue integrated Realtek, I reckon.

Yeah i'm only using the external for music playback. I could use either the external or integrated for line-in for vent, 'cause I really don't care about the quality going into vent. But I can't make

a) iTunes output to both my external card and integrated simultaneously
or
b) have vent recognize my external card as line-in

I've tried fooling around with virtual audio cables but I couldn't make it work.

So my local Microcenter has Asus GTX 465's for $215 or so, and I did some research and saw that apparently Asus itself released a simple tool to unlock the card to GTX 470 specs.

Anyone have experience with this card/process?  It seems almost too good to be true it's so easy...

EDIT: ...and would a Q6600 at ~3.0 GHz bottleneck a GTX 470?

Watch the market.  465's are getting cheap.

Fry's had the EVGA GTX465 SC 1GB for $180 after rebate last week.
Newegg has MSI N465GTX Twin Frozr II GeForce GTX 465 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 $152 after rebate.

I think it is .Sup

I'm rocking a 4870 and I'm lusting for an upgrade already...
Though I think I will be better off waiting for one or two years then upgrading to something newer than a C2D

AFAIK SLI being a little temperamental would mean it would vary depending on game/application.

Hence why I said about equal / slightly more powerfull

I looked it up.. with 2009 drivers the SLI 8800GTX benched a total 600 while the solo 4870 benched a total 400 @ 1680x1050

(total = all FPS benchmarks added together...)

I'd say that's about equal to a single 5850 if I remember right

i don't know what they're equal to nowadays... they're so old... i bought them in 2007 when they were the TOP end card.

in my mind the 8800GTX is one of the best graphics cards ever made... it was king of the benchmarks for so so long.

afaik the first card that beat it for price:performance was those new-chip (g92 or something? not a clue) 8800GT's
