"mods/bf2/shaders/staticmesh.fx not found!!! _DO_ check your working directory, _AND_ sync your shaders folder before calling upon your local rendering programmer/GP. (really!)"

Says exactly that every time I try to run BF2. I can't reinstall because of another issue. Even though I bought the one-disc DVD version of the game, it asks for disc 2 on installation. Someone help!

Already explained that I can't reinstall without buying the CD version of the game. If haven't bothered trying to find the file because that directory doesn't even exist on my computer.

Yeah I can't reinstall. DVD version only has one disc but it asks for 2.

Give this a try:

Go into the \My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache\ folder and delete all the sub folders. You'll see a bunch of folders with the name "{D7B71EE2-1609-11CF-056A-1823A1C2CB35}_blah_yeah" Shit-can those and see what happens. This won't hurt anything, but you'll have to wait for the game to render all the shaders when the maps load.

I don't have a mods folder in MyDocs/BF2, and when I get to it another way, I don't have a cache folder in mods/bf2.

Check to make sure you have these folders: (if not, create them yourself)

\My Documents\Battlefield 2\cache
\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

Also, did you by any chance install the map editor? If you did, uninstall it, and reinstall with this version

Once I've created them myself (all empty, new folders), now what?
Never installed the map editor.

Are there multiple computer profiles on your computer? (not BF2 accounts)

Did you install any custom maps by any chance? If so, move those to another folder, until you can get this worked out.

Yes.
Have you looked in those profiles for BF2 content?

I tried to at some point, that never worked out. I'll look for traces of them though.

If your not playing on the XP profile bf2 was installed on that would explain the error.
If your having trouble installing from the dvd u can copy the contents of the dvd to a folder on ur desktop and run it from there.
nm is correct this is a problem with cache. U need to figure out what u have recently done to change this....

The only thing I can even think of is I ran a system restore to undo the uninstallation of BF2 that I couldn't fix.

If he can find the XP profile the game was installed under, he can copy the "Battlefield 2" folder and it's content to the new profile/My Documents folder.

I've had this error once before too, and deleting the cache fixed it for me. But it sounds like a profile problem at this point.

On my machine, the only trace of "staticmesh.fx" is with the map editor.

Yikes.. hehe

I can attempt to zip the contents of my "MyDocs/Bf2" stuff, minus the cache and my BF2 account stuff? Wouldn't hurt at this point.

Well I'm actually receiving a mydocs/bf2 folder from someone else right now. Only thing is, he gave me the whole folder...should he have not given me the cache?

ya ok theres ur problem..... U probally need a full uninstall and reinstall if thats the case.
if u move the tcontents of the cd to a folder on the drive u should have no prob reinstalling.

BTW never uninstall a prog then try to reverse that by using system restore. just reinstall the prog. what u were trying to use it for is not what system resore is for.

Nope, you do NOT want his cache. Different system config, so it won't work.
