Is getting insurance for a car with unregistered mods like that an issue?Engineer_Fox wrote:
I'm looking into buying this Golf Mk.I. On paper it sayes, it's a 1.1c Diesel. But in reality, it houses a 2.9ltr VR6 Syncro block, thats means about 190bhp 4x4. Not sure if I want to buy it due to problems I might get when it's time for the yearly MOT..

I'd rather have a stock one than something with illegal engine mods thrown in

It's not illegal to build another engine into a car, but it is illegal to drive around with sayed B-engine is on paper it sayes it has sayed A-engine. If the MOT finds out about this, you have to re-register the car which costs about 2k. MOds and such like air-filters, intercooler, turbochargers, nitrous oxide, is all legal.Dilbert_X wrote:

But pretty hard to get insurance for? (Assuming you have it)Engineer_Fox wrote:

You don't have to pay extra insurrance if you modify it with above mods. Only when you change the whole engine from ex. a 1.3l to a 2.9l

Protip: Don't ever drive it to Denmark... They'll tow it away and you won't see it againEngineer_Fox wrote:

You can only tune cars to 20% above stock power here.. I hear it's possible to do more but it is difficult as fuck and you need to fill in a fuckwad of papers and upgrade brakes and other safeties 10x more than you upgrade the engine...
EDIT: Oh and Nitrous will get your car impounded and scrapped here too

Heheh, I know, some countries are very strict about what you can and can't do to a car. I can understand from their pov but I would take it with a grain of salt
Too bad that "grain" is enough to get your car impounded and crushedEngineer_Fox wrote:

My mate is a VW fanatic, he had a mk1 about a year ago, sold it
bought another one a month ago, slammed it on coilovers, got whitewall tyres. sold it 3 weeks later BUT bought a better one in PERFECT condition (petrol this time though), and swapped the parts back over. Will post a photo or two
And another guy has a mk2 GTI but with MK3 engine, that looks nice too
btw i work at vw

Currently learning in this
(Not that EXACT one)
Piece of shit, terrible indicators, no third gear, 0-60 in about a month, no feeling through the wheel whatsoever.
Hate hate hate. All my hate.

Anyway, how do you know how good it is when you have to drive it under instruction? And how many cars can you compare it to?

Stick it in third, 1.5k revs, takes about 2 years to do anything. I've gotten into the habit of just revving the shit out of it in 2nd up to like 25-30 and slotting it into 4th.FloppY_ wrote:
