the library is a little snappier and the looks have been streamlined a bit- especially in the column browser, which i use all the time.
im also trying
really hard to like this ping thing. it has so much potential - if they just integrated in your system of itunes song/album/artist ratings (on the 5 star system) and perhaps compiled a last.fm-esque list of your 'most played' or 'recently listened' artists... then it would make your profile more attractive and actually give a
point to browsing around Ping as a social-network. right now i see absolutely no incentive to rate songs in iTunes because it doesn't carry over to the Ping system at all - i have to research for the artist/album/song in question and individually rate them on their separate database. tedious and too much effort. also, as much as im interested in doing so, there really is no point whatsoever in writing 'reviews' for artists or albums... there's simply no way to quick-link to them.
the fact that ping is totally integrated into iTunes is a bit of a fault. i cannot link anyone easily to my profile in the same way i could refer people to a twitter feed or a facebook profile to then 'follow' or 'like' accordingly. instead, people have to go through the hassle - again - of searching through their separate system to find me by name, to then see what i think of 'xyz' music. that's just too much effort when there are too many other competing services. i can compile stats on last.fm, review music on my blog/in print and create playlists and advanced recommendations on spotify... why should i use ping? it doesn't even seamlessly integrate with itunes, the native platform of the service... it's just all so much effort at the moment! it'll never catch on if people have to go to such great lengths to just 'post' something. if i can't 'like' or 'review' an album from my library-window, on the fly... then i never will. i categorically
refuse to go to the itunes store and manually search for a song every time i want to recommend it, rate it or review it. ridiculous system.
anyone else have any thoughts? if anything, this has helped me to appreciate last.fm more...
