The recession is taking a toll on all of us.  The job front doesn't look like its getting better with the government announcing an increase in the unemployment rate from 9.5 to 9.6%.  Also the U6 number (real unemployment is around 17%), is terrible:

So with all that some women are joining the oldest profession:

I see nothing wrong with it. It's the oldest profession in the world, and it's completely up to the women... Or indeed the man.

With the exception of the first girl, all of the women in that story are gross.

OT: Porn model agencies have also been getting lots of new women. I remember reading an announcement by LADirect that even said that bad times help their type of agencies. It was around the time they added 5 new girls to their roster.

Legalize and regulate prostitution.  It makes more sense than keeping it illegal.

There's free brothels in Eastern Europe, the only condition is you're filmed.

True but most prostitutes wouldn't exist if the profession was legal or regulated. If the money isn't easy then where's the appeal? Sex with pathetic jackasses who have to pay for it?

The money will always be easy.  There will always be men willing to pay for sex.

We already have legalized prostitution. It's called dating.

Legal vs illegal doesn't seem to make a difference, it won't affect the money they make, in fact if legal that cuts out the pimps for a start and the people traffickers too - so probably the girls would make more money.

Of course it will.
Prostitution as a legal activity has its advantages more in terms of health and safety of the prostitutes and their clients, btw i'm all for it it's time to stop being hypocritical and see it as a business like any other.
But most people who become prostitutes do it because they don't have to declare their income and pay taxes on it, the easy money has nothing to do with the sex trade being easy but with the fact that is not a regulated industry.

i really doubt the number one reason women (or men) turn to prostitution is to avoid paying taxes.  thats just silly.

The main difference is what Ticia alluded to.  A regulated sex industry means that prostitutes (not trafficked people) would be required to get tested and would be forced to exit the legal market if they have a disease that is incurable or highly contagious.

By and large, if consumers of the sex industry are aware that a safe and legal market for sex is available and affordable, then they will opt for legal prostitutes over illegal ones -- even with the price differences present.  No reasonable person wants to increase their chances of getting a disease when a safe option is available.

Concerning the few that would still opt for illegal prostitutes (or trafficked people), they are not a suitable argument against legalization, because they would opt for illegal prostitutes either way.  In a market where there is a legal option, there will still be people that would attempt to buy sex with children for example.  It's a fucked up situation in that respect, but obviously, legalizing prostitution with minors is never going to happen.

The fact that pedophiles exist, however, is not a valid argument against legalization of prostitution among adults.

Wanting fast cash is different from specifically aiming to evade taxes.

An action that has more to do with that would be something like hiring illegal immigrants for your business.

Given the choice between paying 25% tax to the govt and being protected by the Police or 50+% to a pimp/brothel owner/trafficker which do you think the average girl would pick?

Granted registration is one of the biggest hurdles for the part-timers, and is a factor against easy cash for them.
