Lewis Carroll, the author of "Alice in Wonderland" is said to have had hypergraphia. In his lifetime he wrote over 98,000 letters varying in format. The letters were written backwards, in rebus, and in different patterns, such as the "Mouse Tail" in the former book. Some examples of his letters can be found here.

no. but one thing that does interest me is that a century or two ago many of the leading thinkers/intellectuals/scientists/artists etc. were also famous 'men of letters'. obviously as the main form of long-distance correspondence was to write a letter, many well known intellectuals were prolific letter writers. i love reading the collected letters of certain thinkers/authors, actually. the epistolary form is pretty unique. it doesn't surprise me that any well-known author also happened to write tons of letters. carroll definitely sounds like he had a mental condition, though. some of that shit is borderline autustic.
