better weed in mexico.

and im still maintaining that the massive majority of cocaine profits stay in the hands of the colombian king-pins.

bigger street value but mexicans are nothing more than border mules in the supply-chain for that.

Thats not the question, its whether the Mexicans make more out of cocaine or cannabis.

they make more out of cannabis, there's no question. as the analysis states, they control the production, the cultivation, the distribution and the sale of that product. for cocaine they are merely inflating the street-cost by getting a share of the final profit by trafficking. that's a relatively small cut compared to the money the colombians in control of their own production, cultivation/manufacture and distribution are making.

I don't see why she would have to. Could easily bribe a slack-jawed gov't drone with her smile for a green card.

Decapitated bodies hanging off bridges, mass graves. You know what, Mexico comes very close to Afghanistan and Iraq (actually Iraq is probably better than Mexico right now in terms of violence)

I don't understand why this situation isn't even being brought up by anyone, what's the UN doing. They're so focused on Africa and the Middle East

UN isn't really doing anything. Why isn't anyone doing anything about it? Because nobody gives a fuck.

Like the US what ever let Mexico emerge out of a 3rd world situation to become a more powerful nation. They wouldn't. The US is fine with Mexico remaining a poor nation. That's the reality.

How exactly are we keeping the Mexicans down and why wouldn't we want to be bordered by a rich and economically powerful state?

Why is it the US' responsibility to make them powerful?

I didn't say it was the US's responsibility. What I am saying is the US prefers Mexico to remain a 3rd world country.

I think you're looking at this wrong.  NAFTA helped Mexico more than it helped us.  If anything, the last 2 decades have shown that a good chunk of our leadership is perfectly fine with screwing over our own interests to make a few billion south of the border.

The majority of Mexico's problems stem from the considerable poverty and corruption there.  Even if America was completely benign in its policies toward Mexico, they'd still be struggling with cartels.

Even if we legalized all drugs, cartels would still run guns here and run drugs to Canada or South America.

There comes a point where a country has to acknowledge its own faults and fix those.  Similarly, America can't blame Mexico for most of its problems either.

It would be in United States interest if Mexico were much wealthier.

Venezuela, More Deadly Than Iraq, Wonders Why

In Iraq, a country with about the same population as Venezuela, there were 4,644 civilian deaths from violence in 2009, according to Iraq Body Count; in Venezuela that year, the number of murders climbed above 16,000.

Even Mexico’s infamous drug war has claimed fewer lives.

So I was reading about another attack in Mexico today, which was allegedly carried out by the Zeta cartel according to the BBC:

Six women and two men have been killed in an attack on a bar in the Mexican resort city of Cancun, officials say.

Witnesses told police that six armed men had thrown petrol bombs into the building early on Tuesday, setting it ablaze, Quintana Roo state attorney-general Francisco Alor said.

Investigators were examining the wreckage of the bar, he added.

According to one report, the business had been the target of attempts to extort money by the Zeta drugs cartel.

Decided to look up just who these Zeta guys are. I swear it's like this shit came from the script of a movie or video game in a post-apocalyptic world.

Los Zetas is a criminal organization in Mexico dedicated mostly to international illegal drug trade and other organized crime activities. This drug cartel was founded by a group of Mexican Army Special Forces deserters and is now integrated by corrupt ex-federal, state, and local police officers, as well as ex-Kaibiles from Guatemala.
