Looks like all our surgary foods are going up in price as a judge just ruled that 95% of the the next Sugar Beet crop cannot be sold in the United States.

Should we worry?  Time to buy Sugar futures?  Will there be an alternative?  Where's Dwight Schrute when you need him?

I would be absolutely astonished if there really weren't enough seeds available for next years crop. I call bs.

95% of the sugar people consume is totally unnecessary.
Maybe its an evil democrat plot to make you skinny and torpid?

We should really stop using high fructose corn syrup and instead use sugar cane.  We should also stop subsidizing corn (or any agriculture for that matter).

Well generally the poor that get hit the most as a larger percent of their income is spent on food.  And food is very inelastic in price (you have to eat).

Now if your food budget increased by 15% would you change your eating habits?

The problem is that it actually costs more to eat healthy. Organicly grown vegtables, healthy cereal, beef and chicken raised without steroids all cost almost twice as much as their conterparts. As long as the junk that is bad for you costs less than the healthy stuff I don't see people changing their eating habbits. but I can say that here is the US you can see the effects of this unhealthy eating already. Girls are getting bigger "FAT" and even children are overweight. This country is becomming a nation of fat people. Another problem with all the stuff being put in our found is the birth defects we're now seeing at an epidemic proportion. Glad I'm done having kids.

I would imagine we would switch to other alternatives: artifical sweetners like Saccharin which are chemically produced.
There are a variety of artifical sweenters, none are very appeasing to the taste IMO.
Honey and Blue Agave are ideal sweetners for beverages.
