Wouldn't even have to be a very complex parasite to work on humans.
Simple parasite in the blood stream that released endorphins whenever a certain chemical hit a receptor.

Example theoretical parasite:
A sexually transmitted virus that released extra endorphins into the blood stream whenever it detected a certain level of endorphins.

i've found from my own personal experiences that the latent levels of all of these brain chemicals affect your every-day mood, actions, decisions and perception. parasites are an 'extreme' form of chemical-hijacking, but in general i think people do not realize just how consequential their chemical-intake, diet and lifestyle are in determining their behaviour and thought-patterns. even 'innocuous' intakes such as caffeine, sugar, chocolate etc. drastically affect how you behave. lacking seratonin after heavy cocaine use, life seemed drab and monotonous. it's not hard to extend that direct relation between brain-chemistry and 'perception' / 'emotions' and then see how 'parasitic' life-forms pharmacologically and neurologically hijack an organism.

A virus releases nothing, except his own RNA/DNA.
Heck, they don't even have the tools to replicate themselves in their small package, so, producing such large molecules doesn't really work.
If anything, they'd need to manipulate the DNA of the cells in the respective glands to make that happen.

Anyway, something like that would be a good treatment for depressive conditions in place of the current drugs and their side effects.
