I don't see how any good can come of releasing such information to the public.

Arizona law:

AZ ARS 13-3112

J. The department of public safety shall maintain a computerized permit record system that is accessible to criminal justice agencies for the purpose of confirming the permit status of any person who is contacted by a law enforcement officer and who claims to hold a valid permit issued by this state. This information and any other records that are maintained regarding applicants, permit holders or instructors shall not be available to any other person or entity except on an order from a state or federal court. A criminal justice agency or other entity shall not use the computerized permit record system to conduct inquiries on whether a person is a concealed weapons permit holder unless the criminal justice agency or other entity has reasonable suspicion to believe the person is carrying a concealed weapon and the person is subject to a lawful criminal investigation, arrest, detention or an investigatory stop.

Names and addresses of NYS pistol permit holders : AKA the Rob These Houses LAST List

And, to reiterate a point that Galt and Gunslinger have made;
Pistols are for being polite - Shotguns are for dropping targets now
1 shell of #00 buckshot is the equivalent of a 9 round burst from an MP-5 submachine gun.

Well, following the law to the letter is old and busted. Selective Enforcement is the new hotness, dontchaknow.
Don't have to actually go through the troubling, trifling, and time consuming task of, y'know, actually bothering to change the laws.
Just enforce the laws you like, and ignore the ones you don't like.  Or, just get creative with the funding, if the local law enforcement gets all Boy Scout and Johnny Dogooder on you.

The same wording is probably in the NY laws too, but..  Hell, ask Arizona about Federal Selective Enforcement of laws.

The worst part is the website format / layout. Dreadful.

He's legally doing nothing wrong, but he does sound like a complete dick. I'm on the fence as to whether these records should be public, there are valid points to each arguement.

I'm thinking the public distribution of that information would have merit as a 4th Amendment case.

4th Amendment to the United States Constitution
"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

good, so every bad guy has a list of houses NOT to invade for fear of getting shot. They now know where to go for easy pickings, the houses that deplore guns and champion the rights of criminals.
