*dub-step gets better results I find, when googling.
i normally find an electronic clueless-kiddie can't discern much difference between googling 'the prodigy' and youtubing 'filthy dubstep', anyway.
if it makes your head nod, your foot tap, or provides a festival theme-track... that seems to be the only qualification.
people forget that there's an entire forum of discussion, a critical/musical/academic discourse and a massive community for real, genuine electronica.
i can't form an apt analogy but it's kind of like offending a classical, orthodox, music-conservatoire cat by saying you like classical because you enjoy hans zimmer's work in 'gladiator', or have the 'requiem for a dream' soundtrack which you've repeated endlessly for 2 years. does that make sense? like every artistic endeavour there's the casual, simply-entertained crowd, and the real enthusiasts. electronica has been a religion for some since the earliest 1950's analogue inceptions. 'trends' like 'filthy dubstep' or whatever-the-fuck this 'dubstyle' shit is are just an insult. i wish socially-insecure, bandwagon-hopping, contrivedly-cool kids would stick to emo, or metalcore, or deathcore, or whatever the fuck is popular for high-school students struggling to get laid nowadays.

'fuck you, mentioning popular shit you actually like in place of this garbage!1!'
So what if they're new...how does any genre gain momentum?
And no, I am not a aficionado.

people getting into 'x' category or genre of music for superficial, get-laid, get-pilled-up purposes
will NEVER, EVER crossover into a genuine interest, appreciation or 'like' for the art or music
so don't pull that 'whatever gets new kids interested' line, that's bullshit and you know it.
last time i checked no hardstyle kids were pulling their heads out of a vomit-filled tent to appreciate the latest ambient-drone, or cosmic-disco, or IDM manifestation. they'll use the music in the same way unpopular kids used glam-rock and guns n roses in the 80's to get laid with equally insecure, lacking-taste, lacking-interest, lacking-personality members of the opposite sex.

u entertain me so much uzique i laugh
all im saying in my original post is that this shit is, technically, generically, characteristically and CATEGORICALLY not dubstep. not even related. not even affiliated. cannot even see a creative influence or common gene. furthermore i am saying, as a generalisation, that to electronica this requires as much taste/sensibility as nickelback does for a rock 'fan'.
nothing controversial or contentious, really. i get that the thread was made with 'good' or 'honest' intentions of sharing music with people - which is an act i applaud, this forum needs more of that - but the thing that turns me off is the likely motivation behind it. hearing about it from a pilled-up hardstyle crowd and passing it off because it's an extension of your 'image' or 'label', e.g. raver-kid, is lame. i find it an insult to a valid area of electronic musical-art. furthermore it's just clearly desperately clinching at the recent 'cool' fad of awful 'dubstep' variations: it doesn't take a genius to figure out that this music is just being produced and propagated by talentless producers and clueless 'fans' because they've latched onto the dubstep bandwagon and still want to get some airtime. yawn, yawn, yawn.

You're right, I should halt my involvement in anything this utterly shit (and I dislike dubstep, too, so I really have no stake on that front).Uzique wrote:

I'm more concerned with how interest in electronica, as an art-form, and not the background track to a drug-binge, evolves.
I think for me it started by listening to the standard top 10 bullshit list, and when my appetite grew insatiable I turned to searching for lesser known artists, not because I thought it was cool, but because I was hooked.
So all your 'never, ever' mentality is bullshit. I know 90% of kids start that way.
Even if they keep listening to the top 10 and pretend to know their shit, who cares? Does it detract from your listening experience? You know they're shit (the kids and the artists), so give it up.
Let that 5% trickle through.

I think this thread has proved that this dubstyle is very good music

it doesn't bother me or detract from my musical, artistic experience or appreciation at all.
the fact is that it's being used as a token, an ostentatious display and device, on a discussion-forum.
thus it's not exactly approaching or talking about the music in the practical, ears tuned-in way that your reductive argument references...
thus i shall debunk it as the ostentatious, pseudo-musical, more-probably-social phenomenon that it is.

n.b. poschy, i think you have to live in the main, original, cultural-capitals of dubstep/this forum of electronic music, generally. (un)fortunately i live either in LDN, the home-town, or near bristol, europe's second-city of this type of music, so i get VERY easily irked by this 'social' phenomena that i describe: cool-kids passing off good music for social kudos. it just gets annoying and naturally very tiring when you deal with the average-student type quoting 'filthy dubstep' at every party.
i hope you understand - i cannot imagine it being anywhere near as bad in NA, where dubstep is a novel import.

I don't give a fuck what Lt.Victim thinks this has done for his reputation.
I stated my intent in the first 2 lines of my post.
I know Lt. has nothing worth saying about the music.
I quoted and addressed a small portion of your rant, which you had briefly decided to back, but suddenly seem to have forgotten.
And for fuck sake, stop using "pseudo" to describe everything. It makes you sound like a wanna-be pedant.

modern literature students retreating to the tired excuse of 'internet-text doesnt carry sarcasm' in this thread
news just in: the written form never carries any tonal or attitudinal inflection
being able to 'read' sarcasm is now impossible

I like listening to non-mainstream music so I can sound superior when everyone else discovers it.
Compare detecting sarcasm on the internet to literature, which sets a tone for the piece being read, develops a character, and addressed a limited number of topics, and prove to me how poor you are at this.Uzique wrote:

Unless you expect me to have gathered Uzique's opinion on every topic he's ever written on to be able to distinguish between sincere and insincere uses of the word 'psudeo'. You're flat on the internet.
That's so sad I really don't have anything else to say...
