Not as a counter to the F-16, but from the F-16. Israel doesn't need a counter to the F-16, they've got shitloads of them. And China just reverse-engineers things like engines anyway, they don't use ones from Russia. As for technology, China puts just as much computing power in their jets as we do. The F-16 has pre-286 equivalent computers running its avionics...pretty sure China can match that.pace51 wrote:
Yes. Israeli Aircraft Industries made the Lavi to function as a counter to the F-16. Lots of countries needed a counter to the F-16, so China borrowed the Lavi design and made it better. They weren't alllowed to use the original Pratt and Whitney's because of the USA's export bans to China, so they settled with the heavier Russian engines instead. Meaning that the J-10 isn't as powerful as the F-16 in most aspects, although it comes very very close. Besides, the F-16's are sometimes called "flying computers" as some people have said to me. I doubt the J-10 or even the Super-10 has that much technology in it.FEOS wrote:

It's a copy too. It's a copy of Israel's IAI Lavi. It resembles the eurofighter cause of the delta wings and te canards... both of those jets are . China is in love with mig and sukhoi... they just don't admit it. And you're right, I wonder who the JF-17 thunder was plagiarized from...
And, yes, the J-10 looks an awful lot like the Lavi...which looks an awful lot like the F-16. That's one way to get around tech transfer laws.

Good luck
That there is a GE-90-115B engine on a Qatar Airways Boeing 777-3DZ(ER).
I recognised the shape of the engine blades and the livery... got the info from the flickr page for that photo.
Whoever wants to post a pic. K go!
WTF? Israel has F-16s, and both engines used in the J-10 (AL-31, WS-10) are lighter than both engines used in the F-16 (F100/F110). Plus the J-10 has a comparable or even better thrust/weight ratio...pace51 wrote:

Fuck the j-10 I'm biased. F-16's my alltime favorite plane and I'm pretty sure it can also transform into a giant robot and fight crime while cooking tasty sausages. Can a j-10 do that no I think not hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
(To be serious... I'm kinda biased, but Im pretty sure I read that when the J-10's were being made they were forced to use the heavier russian engines though they soon made they own reverse engineered engines to replace the russian engines with. That may not be true but thats what I read).

I'm on a quest to see every blackbird in existence. I'm up to 8 right now but will be at 16 by the end of my September trip.
Of course, I'll actually be at 15 because one of the A-12s is at that Central Intelligence Agency headquarters at Langley. I called them up the other day and they said I could not come in. Why does the CIA have to ruin all my fun?
