early days... like how i was ranked in the world's top 100 at BC2 when it launched...
takes a while for the skill-rating system to even out, establish an average, and calibrate to different league brackets...

Im still in the practice league. I won one game, only because the other player dropped. Im terrible. But its still fun... Anyone wanna beat up on me so I can learn the game? I havent played any SC since like 1998....
Platinum will be easy to stay in. Tbh i don't even think diamond will be that difficult to stay in.
In the beta there were over a thousand people in diamond. Now it's released i'm expecting that number to jump massively. They really need another division above diamond for the pros because there is such an enormous difference in ability between top diamond and bottom diamond. It's too easy to get into diamond (or at least it was in the beta).
Hopefully blizzard will rectify this otherwise i could end up a low diamond player getting stomped by top diamond

Sadly, SC2 popularity will encourage more second rate RTS games to come out.

WoW also stimulated - and i use the word 'stimulated' in the economic and industrial sense, which is a wholly good thing - competing MMO titles and provoked other game companies to design and develop competing games, with competing attempts to knock WOW off the top spot. naturally, all of them failed and blizzard's design held-out as the all-round best. but a lot of money was generated and a lot of game-industry professionals were in employment because of the 'boom' in interest. cannot be a bad thing, imo, and doesn't bother me playing the blizzard-title because that's where all the people with sense are at, anyway.
