football manager is a massively popular game here in the UK
guess it's cause the team managers are public personalities in themselves, and it's more like a strategy-game than anything else.

i dunno about american football games but the gameplay in football manager is totally different to football games: you don't actually play the matches at all. it's more about strategy over a season/league, team tactics/organisation, transfers, money/finance etc.

The way I see American football it's all about the tactics anyway and less so about physically playing. I've never played an NFL game before but I'm not sure what people actually do on the pitch because the play's are based on tactics so much. I dunno
