OK.. let me clarify...no flames intended..  Sapphire is owned by a company called PC Partner.. I KNOW that ATI uses PC Partner for the bulk of their OEM and Retail Video cards.. Not saying that Powercolor does not make a few for ATI, the MAIN manufacturer is PC Partner.....err... Sapphire.

Well, it looks like i'll get that card if ebuyer aren't tits about me wanting a refund instead of a direct replacement.

I originally got that card so in the future if I wanted to upgrade I could get another and SLI it up. Rather than getting a more expensive whole new card, but frankly.. My view of nvidia and BFG took a nose dive after this.

I wonder what the hell happened with their quality control?

It's beginning to get annoying now too, especially where i'm having a BF2 marathon game and all I get is this;

get the XT since its 50 bucks cheaper... get a good quiet cooler like the vf900cu from zalman, it would overclockt he xt to beyond xt speeds.

The XTX is cheaper by about £20 over the 7900GTX that I bought, little point going with the XT really.

Plus, I really don't feel like faffing around removing heatsinks, removing thermal paste, reapplying thermal paste etc unless I really have to. Plus, that'd void my warranty more than likely. Incase the same thing happens to the 1900 that's happened to my 7900 i'd prefer not to.

EDIT: The BFG 512MB 7900GTX OC cost me £340.39 and the Sapphire 512MB Radeon X1900XTX costs £327.62.

Yeah dude, I do that kind of stuff all the time at work. My problem with that though is that it voids the warranty, meaning if I start having problems with the card I doubt ebuyer would replace or refund.
I can relatively easilly afford this XTX anyway, it's no big deal.

Annoying thing is if ebuyer won't allow a refund i'll not be a happy bunny. Plus then i'll be without a graphics card in my pc whilst I wait for the replacement. Whereas if I get a refund I can order the 1900XTX, set it to next day delivery and not worry.

Just talked with an ebuyer guy on the phone who submitted an RMA for me, he seemed to be ok with a refund.

Now needing to wait for it to be accepted, then i'll add a note to the RMA to point to the images.

I've ordered the Sapphire X1900XTX, set it to next day delivery.

When I bought my BFG 6800U 256MB AGP, I had to RMA it back to BFG for a replacement. When it came back, I never had a problem again. Since Jan 2005. My biggest complaint was the shipping cost for RMA, so the next card I'm buying will be from a damn local shop (provided the price is within reason), not Newegg or Tiger.

Got my X1900XTX sitting next to me, once I get home i'll plug it in etc.

The 7900 has now been sent back to ebuyer, pity I couldn't get another 7900GTX but ebuyer had none in stock.

Argh!

Got my new X1900XTX home, plugged it in, installed drivers etc.

On booting up at the point it initialises the display driver it displays the following for a few seconds:

https://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~mccasey/_RW_0130.jpg

It then displays the login window etc relatively ok, however there is a very slight flickering to everything. It's most noticable ironically enough on the light and dark browns on the bf2s site.

Tried changing the dvi frequency settings etc.

This is not my week.

I have 2 eVGA 7900GTXs in SLI and I've never had those problems. At stock I've never even seen them come close to red line temps either. Try some new drivers (DNA maybe) and if that doesn't work then RMA them suckers.

Lol-I just read the rest.

It's gotta be your motherboard homie. Did you rough up your PCI-E slots early on? Are your IRQs(?) or whatever set up correctly? What board are you currently using?

EDIT: LOL... wait a tick.. did you just plug the ATI into your nvidia mobo?!

ATI cards work fine in nforce motherboards, my previous system was an nforce2 chipset and a Radeon 9800 Pro.
Worked flawlessly.

This slight flickering occurs even with the default windows display driver. (the crappy slow one)
Although the weird corrupt display that appears on bootup doesn't display.

Yeah i agree with the above. its probably the overclocking thats done this,i recommend to underclock to see the difference.

have you checked the most common problem? drivers lol?

could be a possible hardware problem though!

Rgr on the working part-it's just amusing to me-lol. I can only imagine it would run cleaner on a board made more so for it. That crazy boot screen could just be the ATI and the nvidia trying to understand what's going on. I doubt it's anything to worry about. Just make sure to keep an eye on that fan-they've been known to go dead at random.

The X1900XTX is not overclocked.

I just uninstalled the 6.4 Catalyst drivers and installed the 6.3 based Omega drivers. The weird corrupted display doesn't happen but there is still slight flickering.

i got a Powercolor x1900xt 512mb off of newegg...but they dont ship to GB. i love my x1900...it runs hot, but doenst overheat, and the cooling fan is a fucking beast! i get maxed out FPS (100.0/10) in BF2 with everything set on ultra-high (4 rather than 3 in video.con file). I love it! if you are someone that upgrades every 6 months, get this card. it will last you 1-1.5 years. i say this because NONE of the cards on the market support Direct X 10, which will be released in the 1st service pack to windows vista, and will be included in games directly after that release (developers allready have copies of DX10).

EDIT: im running mine with Catalyst 6.4..overclocked to 637 core and 744 mem...runs like a pro.

Ok, new update.

After a search on google I came across this.

I uninstalled the current drivers and installed the Catalyst 6.2 drivers, problem solved. No flickering.

Now the only problem is I know at some point i'm going to come across a game that needs newer drivers...

Here's a new update.

I've decided to.. dun dun duuuuun..

RMA the X1900XTX, getting a refund.

I've seperately ordered a Powercolor  X1900XTX, hopefully these flickering display problems don't happen with this card.

If they do then i'll RMA that too.

How many people can say they've RMA'd three of the best graphics cards on the market?

1. BFG 512MB GeForce 7900GTX (artifacts ingame, faulty)
2. Sapphire 512MB X1900XTX (annoying flickering using the 6.3 and 6.4 Catalyst drivers)
3. Powercolor 512MB X1900XTX (not received this yet, set it to next day delivery.. if the same issue happens i'll probably go back to a 7900GTX)

it also be your psu. in my old system i had a 6600gtoc in with a antec 430 watt psu and i use to get those artifacts in bf2. the same as you have with all those lines and stuff. bought a new case for my new system ive built and it came with a orion 400 watt psu. swapped psu and all the artifacts went away. dunno if thats your problem but if you have an extra psu try swapping it out and see what happens. good luck on getting those flickerings to stop.

The flickering only occurs if I use the 6.3 or 6.4 drivers. If I use the 6.2 drivers there is no flickering.
My PSU is an Antec TruePower II 550W.

I phoned up ebuyer a short bit ago and had a chat, they seemed okay about me rma'ing this for a refund.

There is one thing i've always found that nvidia has over ATI, they absolutely bitch slap ATI when it comes to drivers. Had driver problems on my old 9800 too.

Apart from the artifacts ingame (which was a hardware issue) the drivers for the 7900 were flawless. Plus I don't particularly like Catalyst Control Center.
