What the hell. We have small arms fire, small unit engagements, car bombs, beheadings.

Stay inside.
Frightened people on the U.S. side of the border called emergency dispatchers after hearing the gunfire, Laredo police spokesman Joe Baeza said Thursday. But he said there was no spillover violence.
Mexico is a failed state.

It is time for us to invade, annex and unify.

Of course, real conspiracy nuts say this is all part of the plan.

Canada and South America, you are next.

Cool. Grab a case of beer, a lawn chair and watch the free fireworks display at the border.

You don't see any economical fallout from a failed mexican state?

You don't see any downside?

After reading up on current events, I kinda feel the UN or someone should invade and intervene. Actually, the US should do it. For irony reasons, and also, they'd probably do it effectively.

Nope. Other than an influx of refugees. The manufacturing plants that have set up just on the other side of the border will just have to go elsewhere.

Why? Other than oil, they don't export anything of value except cheap labor. We aren't dependent on Mexico in the slightest.

Forget invading.

Just take 10% of the troops it'd take to invade, and put them on the border as a defensive line.
And finish the border wall we started in 1995.
Import some old Berlin wall building experts, if need be.

I'm thinking it would make sense to sell off all that prime real estate the Marines own in southern California, split the profits between California and the Federal government - and buy up all the border real estate on the Arizona border for a new Marine base.
Make the most southern part of the new base the Artillery impact area, and gunnery range.
(I'm only partially joking here)

Then tell Mexico to 'fuck off, stay on your side of the border, and call us when you want to rejoin the Western World'

I have sympathy for the individual Mexicans that are just trying to make a living, get through the day, and support their families.
I don't, however, think it's our job to bail their asses out.
We've got plenty of things on our own plate right now, without trying to help them fix their own hopelessly corrupt, compromised, and bankrupt government.

They want their government fixed, they're going to have to be the ones to get things started, then ask for our help.
If we volunteer to start fixing their government, and/or bailing them out, then it's going to be el Gringo's responsibility to fix everything, and our "interference" that's perceived as having caused all their ills.

Canada will do fine.  America serves as a very large buffer zone for Mexico's problems.

Walls won't work as a lot of illegals just drive across the border. You can't exactly stop people from visiting ya know? Especially since the signing of NAFTA...

As for the UN: They can't even solve any problems in Africa, malnutrition, basic housing, water safety and most important of all, genocide. UN won't do shit ever.

The U.S. imported $210.7 billion dollars worth of Mexico exports ; fish, oil, gold, silver, sculptors, fruits (mango and papayas), leather, uranium, automobile parts, cotton, coffee, tin, sugar, shrimp, copper, salt, sulfur, zinc, seeds, tobacco, minerals, water and rocks. They took delivery of about 130 billion in goods made in America.

That's a third of a trillion per year excluding the drug trade.

Well, legalizing pot would probably be the best first step.  The harder, more addictive stuff would require a gradual decriminalization process.

Except I somehow doubt the cartels are making much out of pot, so there is little point in legalising it.
Start with the profitable stuff first and cut their income.

Actually, pot is a huge market for the cartels.  Cocaine is more profitable, but pot moves in larger volumes.
