I bought a new XFX 6600gt 128mb AGP card as I am not ready to upgrade to PCI-e. It only allows me to run BF2 at medium-low settings.

Does anyone know whether a Leadtek 6800GT AGP A400GT 256mb would do a better job? Saw one on ebay and may buy then sell my 6600gt.

What do people recommend? Help is much appreciated!

It would do better but, what is the specs of your computer because I can run Bf2 on high exept lighting and texture at medium with AA at 2x.  But I have a PCI-E 6600gt with a 3000+ AMD and an Audigy 2ZS

The 6800GT would give you the boost but not too much of a radical boosts, at least it gives you the freedom to set several medium settings to high.

I have a P4 3.2g 775 chipset. Older model. I think HT with 512K cache? Does that sound right (bought about 1.5 year ago)

2 gig of ram.
7200rpm Hardrives
Windows XP home edition.
Audigy sound card - just standard edition.

I don't know whether anything else is relevant for graphics card.

I was able to have all on medium for a while until I notice wake 64 player became to jerky (low framerates).

I was thinking of buying the 7800gs (but I think the $500 AUS is a bit much.......for maybe a year before the next upgrade.......computer does everything I want at current......which is play bf2!). Trust me I would love to spend $2000 upgrading to a 7900GTX Athlon X2 4400.......but wife won't let me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you havea  6600GT, you should be able to run it on high...My friend has an EVGA 6600GT, 2Gb RAM, and a AMD 3500, and hes capable of running it on high...

Id suggest getting a 6800GS instead however....Its soo hard to find a good 6800GT at a good price now...Just go get this bad boy, and it will give you results similar to that of a 6800GT...

Id say ATI pretty much dominates the mid-range AGP market at this moment...

i am in the same boat with my wife and upgrading, her favourite saying is whats wrong with the current computer.  But i have convinced her to let me upgrade my card as well.  I have a P4 2.8g with 2g generic Ram and was looking at upgrading the video card from i think a 5900GS to a 6800 or 7800GS.  A friend told me that i am limited to AGP cards with my computer, so i am also keen to know if i should upgrade to the 6800 or the 7800GS?

I also do a lot of video editing, will a better video card reduce the resource load on the processor when rendering? I am only able to run BF2 at the lowest settings and really want to run higher.  Sorry to hop on your thread Dingarth but we seem to be asking the same questions.

Thats cool.

Wives............hmmm...........why can't they understand the need for high quality BF2 graphics???????

I know, i have been trying to get my wife into BF2 but its very much mission impossible.  I justify upgrades by convincing her the upgrades improve the video editing process, which is true.  I still havent edited footage from a holiday 2 years ago.  So hopefully someone will tell me that a new video card will help the process of editing.

Arg...I'd hate to have to justify toy purchases to any relation.

Nah my wife is pretty good, although she cant understand the need for more toys.  Am getting the graphics card, just a matter of which one.  6800 or 7800GS.
