Power consumption and temperatures are looking good too.

Here's how it stacks up price wise, around the same price as the 5830, which in most benchmarks it draws with or beats.

So they've finally made a graphics card that's up to challenging ATi's current offerings, but is it too late? And if ATi drop their prices, will anyone buy the 460? Imagine if you can get a 5850 for the same price. Which are you going to choose?

What are ATi's drivers like these days?  I remember about a year ago they were terrible compared to NVIDIA's.

I haven't had any problems with my ATI drivers at all.  I think they recently released an update too.

I have the 5870 and my br0 has the 5770.  Both perform well.

saw this yeasterday/last night/this morning. was very surprised and will probably get one at some point.

makes me wonder what they'll come up with to battle the high 5800s-5900s

also wanna see how the sli is against a 5870 and 5900s (if it battles against them. pprice-wise it would be a good idea if you have 3 460s against a 5970)

The update they released means that loading maps with BC2 with my 5770 has dropped from around 45 ish seconds down to about 5-6 seconds.

I bought an ATI video card this time around. Catalyst Display Driver ver 10.4 made a big time improvement for BF:BC2. Catalyst Display Driver 10.6 recently came out though, shortly after 10.4, so ATI is on top of updating their drivers. I have not played BF:BC2 yet with the latest drivers.

The only problem I had when I switched from Nvidia to ATI was .Net Framework was corrupt (which is needed for the Catalyst Control Center).
After .Net was fixed, the CCC could open without error, regardless the display and HDMI drivers were unaffected.

Extremely good release.

Card is small, low power consumption, reference cooler is quiet and temps are good, overclocks like mad not too far from stock HD 5870 actually.

SLi two of these equals roughly to the much more expensive HD 5970, expect price drops to follow in red camp soon.

Beware custom models from PALIT/Gainward and Zotac tho, Zotac has design flaw placing DVI in the middle of exhaust and PALIT/Gainward seem to be missing VRM cooling heatsink resulting in high temps and high rpm fan (retail card =/= review card).

So... worth it to sell my 275 and get one of these babies? I was originally gonna get the 5850, but these are cheaper and still pack a good punch.

Judging by your specs, I don't think you'd see significant enough gains between the 275 and 460 to warrant the price.  DX11 is still new and only a handful of games truly support it, so I'd recommend staying with the 275 for another year and see what the market is like then.

If you really wanted to upgrade, go for the 480 or 5870.

ATi are getting raped by this new model btw. As you can see, they haven't lowered their prices and everyone is buying the 460. Bad move from ATi, they need to compete with nVidia asap, they can't let them get another stranglehold on the graphics card market.

ati may not be able to lower their prices because they dont have a big bank like nvidia does, no?
