Firstly, please post why if you vote. Thanks. As usual, if you're undecided, null vote it.

During play on the BF2s EU server tonight, I played as Commander for a while on Karkand (fairly briefly), when our previous Commander vanished into thin air. The enemy were swarming on the bridge for a while near Train Wreck, so I killed quite a number of enemies with arty in the short time that was left (but less than 31, since my streak didn't increase). Unfortunately I had forgotten that I was Support and hadn't switched kits (usually I suicide before becoming Commander to prevent the below from occurring).

I got my Veteran Support badge for this.

Am I alone in being vexed by this? Now I'll never get it by doing what the Support kit is supposed to do. The same happened with my Assault badge and Engineer badge - the first because I had no clue it would still allow me to get badges, and the second because I always play as Engineer when I'm commanding.

So - annoying or fantastic?

No, cuz commanding is a whole different class. Kit badges should only come during ground combat, not shooting while commanding,

It takes no skill to hit a button and drop artillery in someone the golory is to be running and gunning machine.

This makes me think something for the umpteenth time - there should be a specific 'Commander' class, with wrench and an MP7 or something else fairly weak, to encourage Commanders to... well, Command.

It takes plenty of skill to place artillery in the right position, since it 'drifts' based on the location of the target and the point of origin. And of course the targets are moving.

yea, i agree, we need a commander class... but that would be weird, like, if u get to be commander, you can only spawn with MP7, wrench, ammo bags, and knife.

Hmmm. Maybe a shotgun would be more suited to the role of Commander - he shouldn't be fighting unless defending his assets / primary CP anyway.

You won't be awarded the repair points, but the repairs made count towards your global score.

Don't believe me? Create a new account, take command and start wrenching away once you hit 5 (you won't know, but the game recognises it), you get the badge.

I think you should be able to gain the badges but they should be marked as such ie a blue background or something until you gain it "legally"if thats the right word .it gives you incentive to command .. makes the stats look good and make you want to play somemore

Well, I got my sniper badge by bombing people in a plane I think. I could be wrong though...

I got my basic AA and Ground defence commanding on each of those "vehicles".  I found it "fantastic" for those two badges but I do agree it is borderline "exploit."  Please don't report me if that was padding... oh well report me if you want

JS:You get rewarded the repair point, but its not reflected in your teamwork score.

I got my expert repair badge commanding while having my command assets constantly attacked.I do believe I earned it.It was a motherfucker to do while supplying and supporting 5 squads constantly asking for stuff wich I gave to them when I had it.
You already sacrifice your team score as well as combat score taking the command seat.Sure you get your score doubled, but only if your team wins.Taking away the ability to get badges would make it so no one would want to command.

@Auqakuh2213: I feel exactly the same way, got my vet spec-ops by mistake when commanding once.

In fact I think all combat badges only should be awarded for kills with the kit weapon, not driving a tank or being a gunner in the attack chopper.

Can't believe so many voted yes on this...

I dont have a problem with the command ones counting for badges personally but I see your point. If people want to earn them that way that is up to them. The problem is that if they change it they should really change the fact that you can use vehicles aswell to get these (Is expert sniper really any good if you earn't it in a tank). Maybee instead of sniper badges etc they should be sniper rifle badges etc.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there.  Does the OP think that the kit badges should be only awarded as infantry or is it acceptable to get the Medic expert badge by sitting in the gunner position of a helicopter, blowing people to bits?  If so, it's pretty much the same thing doing it with artillery instead of a 30mm cannon.

Perhaps he is saying that if commanders had a seperate kit, they would not be able to earn the repair badge which applies to engineers only.

If that were the case though, it would be really easy to let commanders earn the repair badge too.
