haha i was replying to one-word quotes that made no sense and were completely out of context...

you want me to break them down with a full marxist analysis?

thought you didn't read more than one-line, anyway? makes some difference to you.

11b: you read the book twice and didn't get it either times? sucks for you and your school

Where, exactly, did I agree with you?
But he's already doing what he loves.  By me saying 'doing more', it basically means, 'continue to do'.  The difference there is merely working for someone or for yourself, is it not?  If the work is the same, how can collecting a steady paycheck automatically make it crap?

That wasn't me agreeing with you.

And here is someone who understands doing something you love as your career.

Shahter is conveniently ignoring people like Bill gates and the vast majority of the uber rich, who btw, continue working even though they never ever need to again.

ffs, man, read the fucking thread. you CAN do stuff you love and call it your job. what i'm trying to say is that by making stuff you love a part of your job you TAKE AWAY form the enjoyment you get for doing thas stuff.

p.s. thanks, zique, for saving me time.

fair enough, I can certainly think of many Rich people that still do work doing things they love even though they don't need to.

lulz shahter the fact is you have never enjoyed a job you have and therefore are entirely ignorant of the reality of it whether you want to try and philosophize this or not.

i think his point is that if you take 'x' enjoyable activity/hobby and make it a compulsory job-like activity, it transforms into a 'y' category activity and some of the original enjoyment/enthusiasm is taken away. i don't think this is all that wrong - and it has nothing to fucking do with any political ideology, for a start - i think it's a psychological and sociological thing. for example: writing (or journalism). writing in the comforts of your home for enjoyment is a pleasurable hobby, a spare-time activity that one can enjoy to the fullest degree and fullest interest that one takes. when it becomes a job, and the pressures of the workplace, the stresses and demands of the workstyle come in - for example, having to meet a daily demand (of any unit, in this case, words)- the enjoyment diminishes a little. you're still 'doing what you love', but in a concentrated and forced, inescapable fashion that detracts a little bit from the original freedom, and hence 'enjoyment', of the thing itself.

everyone is worked by the system every day in many many many ways.  in the US, we are told to drink lots of milk.  milk is terrible for you.  whole milk has more saturated fat that an order of french fries.  we are told to drink orange juice.  so much sugar is added to that shit.  its like a cup of sugar water.  bacon and eggs...all for breakfast. same with cereal....most loaded with salt and sugar.  none is this as a whole is healthy for you.  same with meat.  but, why is this stuff shoved in our faces?  the govt subsidises farmers.  its huge industry for most states so we get fed (literally) shit as a child and get brainwashed into thinking this is what you need to eat for breakfast.

what about marriage?  another man made institution that fails at least half of the time.  and of the half it doesnt fail half of them stay together because of kids or financial reasons.  they also convinced women that they need expensive rings.  huge industry there also.  all done with marketing to get your money.  hence a scam.  same with housing.

so, as you can see your whole day is one big brainwash.
I think you've been brainwashed by counterculture to be bitter about everything in society.

you could say, to make a tenous stretch, that the adaptation of your passions/hobbies to a weekly work-grind 'brainwashes' you and causes you to mould your previous interests into the orthodoxies of the work-place. losing the relative freedoms of choice, initiative and independence to restructure your previous passions into a corporate-environment does 'brainwash' you in a literal sense: it teaches you to re-engage with your subject in a way that is structured and regimented by management, co-workers, office-culture etc.

it absolutely does. we are being told from the earliest ages that we should absolutely make our interests our job description too. how wonderfull it would be to have these things combined.
and then you have KJ's OP.

Sort of.  The milk provides a coating on the stomach and intestines that slow the absorption.  You need to drink a LOT of milk very quickly to cause vomitting.

A finger is faster if you really need to vomit.  :p
