This is yet another issue about G20 security. The company that is supposed to provide protection for 20 world leaders isn't even licensed. Not only that, many security guards who were hired didn't even have previous experience with a security job. So my question is this. If a gathering of world leaders and VIP's is being guarded by an unlicensed company who hires anyone as long as they're willing to work cheap, what is the quality of security this company can provide? I realize that the leaders themselves are guarded by well trained police and specially trained guards, but these guards are basically the first obstacle any troublemaker has to get through. Are these guards being hired because security is seen as a major concern, or because the organizers want to cut costs while still being able to say, in the event a security breach occurs, that they took measures to prevent it?

Discuss.

That only cost a few thousand

I'm sure Obama's honour guard would be enough to stop anything.  There is serious protection, you cant even get within a kilometer or so of the buildings without previous clearance.

It's pretty good. I realise the security guards are just the first security level and they just protect the border, but I think we should put more thought into this. If you volunteer to do something, you do it right. The security personelle are good, but Obama's their priority, not anyone else. If someone gets in the building, they'll take them down, but Obama's the only one who is really safe. If a guy pulls out a knife and threatens Harper, for example, the snipers will gladly take a shot at the guy with the knife. If the guy goes near Obama, they'll mow anyone down to get him. Not on purpose, but Obama's the package. Everyone should get equal security.

Over 1 billion's been spent on G20. Will the it accomplish anything that makes up for that amount?

Its funny how bogus that stat is.  The large majority of it is security/police staff whose wages would have been paid even if there was no conference going on.

They include police and security (Normal duty) wages in that? OK, that figures blown out of proportion then.

National leaders will always bring their own body guards and local cops will still be involved.
